Slow Opener

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Slow Opener

Post by CBB »

We went back to the Nation River for the opener hoping for a few eye's. Trolled, jigged and never lost a worm or had a hit in 4 hrs. This is a 1st for back on that small river as it has always at least had perch, small pike or bull head hitting the spinners on the slow days. No weeds up but water was showing 62F which is warm enough. Hope some of the other members had a better day.

Only got out for an hour this morning in the yak.......managed a pike, and 3 OOS largies. ALL fish were released yakside, of course. :D :)

No fishing for a couple of days......west winds at 30 KMH gusting to 50 KMH has killed any chance of me going out on the river...
I'm a goin' fishin', mama's goin' fishin' and my baby's goin fishin' too.

Congrats on the nice pike. Always wanted to try a kayak but wife says I have enough toys and hard to bring the dog.

Yes, congrats on the nice pike. I have the same lure in the photo but the pikes ignored mine  .

As boatless anglers, my son and I tried a few places on the Rideau. At Kars, we tried jerkbaits, spoons, spinners and even deadbait. Nothing. I was surprised when I got to Kars. I was expecting a lot of people would be fishing there, but it was dead quiet. Then we tried Burritts Rapids. First the bridge and then the locks. Nothing at both spots either. The locks had a bunch of carp splashing around at the top of locks and my son saw a large one, he estimated about 30 inches, at the bottom of the locks. Back at the bridge, was saw what appeared to be a bass nesting. It was about four to five feet from shore circling around. We noticed it when retrieving our lures a couple of times right next to where it was circling but it never attacked it. After that we avoided going near it.

Nothing to show for are efforts, but it`s still nice to get the line wet.
