Beat'n the banks for big bass.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Beat'n the banks for big bass.

Post by Markus »

I got together with a few close friends and headed to the river for a day of stripe bass fishing. We picked a spot to try and arrived late morning to an out-going tide. We started casting with 10IN powerbait worms on 3/4 ounce jig heads. We picked up 3 doing this and then the action died. At that point, we headed into town for lunch and planned to come back and fish the incoming tide later that afternoon.

I wanted to try some cut bait in the afternoon, so we hunted down some fresh gaspereau from a local fisherman and when we returned to the river bank, we split our approach in half. 2 of the guys continued casting and myself and one other got out cut bait poles out. We absolutely lit it up for the afternoon...cut bait taking most of the fish.

We're allowed to keep one 1 fish over 27IN's and we all landed a keeper to take home...and continued to catch and release them. The largest of the day was a 34 incher...and fat. No weight taken.

Just a great afternoon with some great outdoors-men.

Nice fishing! Good thing you mixed it up.

I tend to find that natural baits work better than artificial.

Arrrgggh!!!! I am so jealous! I have to wait until last week of July before I can fish for Stripers. I thought that would not be too bad but after seeing your photos I will be suffering!

Good catch! Do they take topwater lures where you fish?

That is the absolute rush that I go for!

Great strippers and congrats. Used to fish for them at 5 islands and always used sand worms we dug up on low tide. Would fish the incoming tides on the river mouths.

To be honest...there really isnt a trophy standard here in NS. I agree with whats already been posted though, 45IN's would be a trophy in my books. Everyone oves to see a keeper, and past that there's some bragging rights, but the only trophy anyone wants is a new record....and it's defiantly swimming out there.
