Bears Den Lodge on the French River Delta

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Bears Den Lodge on the French River Delta

Post by Ragehunter »

Hey folks,
Just arrived home from a 4 day trip with Bears Den Lodge up on the French River Delta.
I would recommend this lodge to anybody who wants nice accomodations, amazing food and great fishing! It also fully explains why they have been in business for 33 years now.
My son and I did a "meals included" trip at the lodge with Brenda and Art (the owners) and I can't say enough good about our experience with them! They treated my son (9 yrs old) like a king and made our week a very memorable one.
From being met at the marina to the time we were dropped back off 4 days later, the entire trip was perfect, from the weather to the food to the fishing.
We were provided with a great 14 ft boat with a new 20 hp Mercury on it that worked perfectly.
Given driving a boat up there is like driving through a minefield with all the shoals, deadheads and rocks, Brenda was an invaluable source of information on how to navigate the waters and where to fish.
Art, who is also a wealth of knowledge, is the chef and man, he can cook. Breakfasts were large and tasty, simple lunches provided in coolers and suppers were as good as you'll get. We sure didn't go hungry!
We targeted pike for the entire trip and literally lost count of the pike we hooked. Once you find them each day, the action is pretty much non-stop, from smaller hammer handles up to our largest, which was right around 30 inches. Most pike were in the 2 - 4 lb range and on our final evening there, we hooked and landed 13 pike in 90 minutes of fishing. Perfect way to end the trip!
We will definitely be going back next year for a longer trip. It's well worth the drive and in my opinion, very reasonably priced!
Tight lines, folks!
Cheers!
I'll never apologize for being a hunter (or a fisherman)!
