best knot for skirted jigs

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

best knot for skirted jigs

Post by Tweed »

Hi guys,

I wanted to hear some thoughts on what knot to use for skirted jigs. I have been using the trusty palomar knot, however because the tag end on the knot faces upwards (towards the main line) I find it gets caught up on weeds, etc and really gets caught up a lot on grass/weeds. I know nothing can be completely weedless, but I wondered what knot everyone else is using. I've been using mainly fluoro mainline or straight braid.

Many thanks

I have become accustomed to tying two knots. Uni or Palomar but both of these knots have the tag end towards the mainline. For jigs, I find it more important to use the proper style of head. I have become accustomed to Revenge Flipping Jigs because the line tie is integrated into the head and it pulls through weeds a little cleaner. I know use the same style of head but from Picasso or buy from a couple of custom bait makers.

All I am trying to say is I think (in my experience anyway), the head design of the jig has more to do with your issues than the line or the way you tie it.

when i need a knot with the tag facing the lure i use a clinch knot ( not the improved clinch). I often use Knot 2 Kinky or +30lbs fluoro leaders cos of pesky pikes and that knot never failed me on those stiffer lines...not sure about lighter lines

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. I actually just picked up some strike king 1/2 and 3/4 jigs with the integrated line tie. Pumped up to see if they help out.
