It was a 15 km snowmobile ride on abandoned logging roads and trails to reach the lake from the access road. The ride went up and along (heavily frosted) poplar-covered ridges, as well as up and down hills covered with various conifers.

Caught my fish on a set line baited with small live minnows as well as jigging an Acme Kastmaster (1/4 oz., red flash tape) tipped with bits of minnow. The ice on the lake was about 25 cm where I was fishing (5 to 10 feet deep). Brought a vintage, homemade ice chisel, but ended up using a STIHL auger to get through the ice.

The primitive Rapala Teho I used for jigging.

Shore campfire. Dried out balsam fir saplings burn well, but make for a “sparky” fire.

Splake on ice.
