Algonquin Park lake trout report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Algonquin Park lake trout report

Post by Nyarlathotep »

A fishing partner and I visited a small Park lake this past Saturday, reached by a 4.5 km cart trail from an access road, with parking for 4-5 vehicles at the trailhead (there was no one else parked there that day).

150+ lbs of Sportspal, cart, and gear.

Stop and smell the… whatever the heck this wildflower is.

View of the lake.

We saw a few large fish breaking the lake surface, and tried fishing at various depths, but only caught trout trolling EGB spoons deep with leadcore.

My limit of lake trout. We averaged 45 minutes of fishing effort per fish caught.

Ready for wrapping and freezing.

Nice report. Looks like a great time to be on the lake!

Wht depth were you catching them while trolling?

Nice report, tks for sharing. Good to see your hard work paid off. That's a long way to go for a one day fish, would have been nice to camp overnite. I take it you were rowing, I'm curious how many colours you had to put out and how deep do you figure you were running with that egb.
I have no idea what that flower is, never seen anything like it that I recall.

I was at Opeongo Lake yesterday. Fish were all between 40' to 60'. Only got 1 on a Sutton West River, 8 colours out.

Thanks zippyfx and smitty55. I was running 5 colours of leadcore and my partner was running 6, which resulted in each of us catching 2 trout as well as getting several strikes. Unfortunately I don't know for sure exactly how deep our lures were being trolled at; I don't even know what kind of leadcore I was using because I can't find the original packaging from when I bought it (I'm usually pretty good for saving stuff like that). I Googled "leadcore depth", and from the results I saw I guess the lures were running from about 30 to 50 feet deep.

Also, I find it easier to maintain a nice, sustained leadcore troll while rowing, rather than paddling, although it's certainly doable with the latter.

Nyarlathotep that flower is called Pink Corydalis, usually growing from cracks in rocks or in burned over areas.
