Mississippi Lake Town Launch

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Mississippi Lake Town Launch

Post by 5 Big Bass »

Has anyone heard if the town boat launch will be open for this weekend at Mississippi Lake? If no is there any other location that has boat launch access that is open to this lake?

Thank you.

Carleton Place Boat Launches on Lake Avenue Opening Friday, May 15th

The boat launches at the end of Lake Avenue will be opening this Friday, May 15th. At the recommendation of the Leeds, Grenville and District Health Unit, the launches are for use by Carleton Place residents only and on a day pass basis. Season passes will not be available for purchase at this time.

Staff has consulted with the Health Unit in regards to the safe usage of the site and stress the importance of respecting the following guidelines:
• Residents are asked to boat only with those in their immediate household and with no more than 5 people;
• Residents are asked to wait their turn and stay in their vehicle until the boat ahead of them has left the shore;
• Residents will be not allowed to gather, meet friends, tailgate or picnic at the boat launch at this time;
• Residents must maintain physical distancing guidelines of 6 feet/2 metres at all times.

Please note that docks will only be installed at the launches at the end of Lake Avenue. The portable toilet will not be installed at this time.

Town of Carleton Place By-law Enforcement Officers will be monitoring the area to ensure that safety precautions are being met.

We recognize this service is important to the residents of Carleton Place and we ask for your cooperation in order to be able to continue to offer this service.

News is that the Carleton Place boat launch opens on May 15th for local residents only. See this article: https://lake88.ca/2020/05/13/boat-launc ... onditions/

I don't have news regarding the other boat launches onto Mississippi Lake.

I was at Grasshopper launch today Friday 15th. There are tiny signs posted on the larger signs on site that indicate Environment and Climate Change Canada have closed the bird sanctuary. Not sure when that was posted but the signs are looking very weathered at this point. I chose not to launch there this morning.

I drove to the Carleton Place public launch. It is open. Was able to launch there and get out on the water. Man that felt good! Knew it was going to rain heavy so I got off the water at 11:30am. Still got wet...lol.

While their announcement said the opening was for Carleton Place residents only, there is no signage to that effect at the launch. Nothing. I think they might have realized policing that would be difficult.

By the way, the OPP drove through the launch area twice that I saw, once while I was launching and the second when loading. They did not stop and they did not talk to anyone. Not sure why they were there but there may be some infractions they were looking for such as social distancing.

Also, encountered the OPP in their boat on the Lake. They stopped at 3 boats around me but did not come to my boat. They did not stay long with any particular boat so again, no sure what they were looking for.

I do wish however that they had put the porta potty at the launch but I understand why that's not possible.

Happy fishing!
