After cancelling plan A due to not great water conditions this weekend, hit the water this morning for Plan B..... splake!
Launched shortly after 6 am with my buddy Matt under the cover of darkness and made our way to of fishing spot and get set up trolling using a small spoon and body bait with 5 colour lead core, just as the sun is rising we get a nice double header of a nice splake and decent pike.
After our doubleheader we continue trolling marking some fish... then all of a sudden my 6-hp kicker motor starts sputtering like it is out of gas.... and dies.

We were marking most of our fish and bait down 50 to 60 feet in 75 to 90 feet of water, so we pulled in the lead core lines and dropped the downriggers... we continued trolling marking lots of fish and bait but not much action, we packed it in around 1 pm.
We did not have as much success as I was hoping... a few splake, bass and pike, but still a fun day on the water. Might have to try an evening splake fishing trip next time.
Back to work tomorrow to start planning my next adventure and also dropping the boat off at my marine mechanic buddy's place to see what is up with my kicker motor. Still two months of boating left so need that kicker running!!
A little splake released to grow.

We hooked this guy when we trolled through a huge school of baitfish.

A nice splake that visited the boat today.
