Spring Time Walleye ...... let's see them!!!

With walleye season open, or opening soon in most of Ontario let see some GOLD!!!

I have only been out once so far this spring but hopefully will get out again soon. I did a quick trip to the Bay of Quinte the other day to meet up with a friend to head out in search of a few "eater sized" walleye. We spend a few hours slow trolling worm harnesses in 9 to 12 feet of water and we were not disappointed we landed a bunch of walleye, a pike, a few sheephead and a bunch of pan fish. We released most of the walleye but kept a limit of 16-17 inchers for the frying pan.



I was trolling several different worm harnesses from a couple different companies and some "homemade" ones. I caught fish on pretty much all for them, but I have a few Double Trouble worm harnesses from Walleye Nation Creations, which feature a small treble and followed by a larger slow roll hook set up and I really liked them for decreasing the number of small panfish I would hook. The panfish would still grab and nibble the worm, but I never hooked a single panfish on the "double trouble" hook setup with the larger slow roll trailing hook. I still had my section of worm stolen once in awhile by panfish, but I did not have to reel in my line every few minutes to unhook a 4" panfish.... so my bait was in the water longer.... for more walleye.

Jim, by slow roll I take it you mean a slow death hook that spins around.Or is that just another name for them, there's not much online about slow roll. That means it's spinning the trebles as well, hence the need for that swivel above the treble. Or does the treble restrict the spin of the offset hook?

Yes "slow roll" hook is a slow death hook. Slow Death is technically was one brand of that hook, but several companies make a similar hook. And both hooks spin.
