Shirley's Bay 2025 Ice season

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

It will work out one way or another. The parking lot can be a bit of a S*#t show with respect to people parking every where. Many are just ignorant
with respect to having to maneuver a trailer.....

I wounder how much ice is going to develop from tonight until Xmas eve. the mercury is going to take some good dips and even the day time highs are not going above -3 and -6C tomorrow and fri. Then DOWN for a solid 5 days. Would be interesting to see how much ice develops in this window.

Morning, looking forward to getting out again this season. Cooler today and getting colder over the next week before a mild spell. The colder stuff in the next 5-7 days should help expand things and hopefully lay down that hard water base. If anyone is out in the bay please post an update. Cheers

Took a drive down to the bay this aft. and its pretty much fully covered with ice! There's a couple open spots but not many, The cement barriers will be serious PITA for anyone pulling a trailer. As mentioned before, the rocks have been moved so there's access there. Can't see any reason why they did that to the parking lot.. Unless they want people with trailers to only park in the lot across the street. Of course if you have a sled, you will then have to drive across the road to get access. All in all, doesn't seem to be very well thought out!

Tim I would suggest you give the NCC a call and clue them in on the bad positioning of the barriers, someone there had a major brain cramp for sure.

Ice out there is looking pretty sweet!! I was out on Petrie today in the walleye bay and it was real solid ice, about 5 inches. It’s go-time!!

Its going to be Below zero every day and into double didgets at night. Ice should be ready (just out front of the lot) no later than next weekend max, if not before. Of course take caution, use safety equipment and venture out with a buddy and a spud! Post here if you go ! :) Going to spend the aft today sippin a cold one, watching football/golf and moving my reels onto the ice rods :D !!!!!

@ Smitty For sure you are right, it was not thought through well at all lol. I have already sent an email and have a case# with the NCC. I'll keep you posted on any reply. (or if you see the barriers gone they got back to me :) )

Cheers all - Its time to fish!

I was out with a buddy today about 200 meters from shore on 4.5" of clear ice. Very good base and building. We couldn't reach an ideal location but still pulled up a couple smaller Eyes. Cheers

Thanks for all the updates so far!! Looking forward to another great season on the bay :) also thanks so much to @CClad for touching base with the NCC as the new cement barriers will be a real pain…

Thanks as well @JimW for keeping the site up and running and giving us a good place to share information!

See you out there on the bay!

Hey Mav, when are you thinking of setting up your hut? Did you get some ski's mounted on it? We are looking at setting up (out front) a week tomorrow. Have some mild wet weather coming for a few days next week but the end of the week dips low again......

Just swung by a few minutes ago- barriers are still up in parking lot, but looks like a bunch of tracks out on the ice! Didn’t venture out with a spud, but will over the weekend, maybe with a sled full of gear trailing 🤞🏼

Hey! Yep 100% good to go with the skis. Weather looking good for second week of Jan. But I’ll have to nail down a date. I’ll be in touch!
