This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Bay of Quinte info

Post by Wally »

Hi, I was planning to go and try my luck on the Bay Of Quinte, in a week or 2. Was looking for easy access walking distance, would stay overnight.
Looking to rent a room or small cottage. Anybody can point me in the right direction as far as popular fishing spots, motels/cottage rental.
Anybody been there this winter, how's the ice condition, how deep should i fish. Any info would be appreciated...You can PM....Thanks..AL

Have only got out on “South Potters Creek conservation area”. Pretty decent parking, and easy walk-out access. Can’t tell you any decent spots to spend the night, but I’m sure there are a few motels in Belleville!

Hey Wally, did you end up getting out to the Bay of Quinte?

I was out there for my first time Feb 14th and 15th. I stayed in Napanee and fished the "Long Reach" section of the bay. There is a bait shop called Dew Drop In that has minnows for $6 a dozen!

Fishing was slow for me and I only ended up catching 4 walleye and 2 perch over two full days of fishing. I had lots of follows up and down the water column, but they were tight lipped. Talking to other guys on the ice, it sounded like they weren't getting much action either, so maybe the fish were just off, or I wasn't in the right area.

There is a strong current there, so heavy baits are a must. I caught 3 of the walleye on a #9 Jigging Rap and the other on a #7.

The walleye in there built like footballs! The biggest I caught was just this 18 incher, but it was a fatty.

I'll try my luck out there again next season. Hopefully a bit earlier in the ice season next year.

Thanks for the report Fisherman 89, no we didn't go cause of the snow storm that weekend. I'm glad you went ,yes i heard there was a lot of current in that area, looks like 1/2 oz buckshot are a must. Now with all that snow looks like i might have to wait next year. Will try to go earlier next season ,weather permitted. Did you stay at Fox Inn Motel, how far was the drive from Napanee. How far was the walk to Long Reach.......Wally

I almost cancelled as well due to the snow storm. I ended up leaving Napanee at 3:30AM on Sunday to avoid the heavy snow fall heading back to Ottawa. I stayed at the Fox Motor Inn, was only a 15-20 min drive to the launch from there. Not a far walk out from the launch, maybe a few 100 metres. I also came across this map of BoQ access points on the Quinte fishing forums.
