a couple questions
Hey all! Next year I want to enter some bass tourneys, and I am curious if anyone is involved in the ottawa area. My problem is that I dont have a nice bass boat. Ive got a 14ft aluminum with a 9.9. (Plz stop laughing). N e ways if i enter into some tourneys next summer will I be the laughing stock of the angling community? Does anyone else here compete and have a tin can like me?

I to would like to join a few next year, but don't have a bass boat.
I join quite a few local derby's and do fairly well in them, so I've been thinking of taking the next step.
I'd love to start fishing pro, but my pocket book will not allow me to buy a Bass Boat.
I have a 14' fibreglass with a 15hp motor, with no livewell, I just ain't entering a pro tourny with that.

I wouldn't worry too much guys... From what i hear there are a few people that fish the tourneys that don't have bass boats... All it really means is you'll not be able to get to some spots as fast or as far away. The size and speed of your boat have little to do with the skill of the angler who's in it.

Yes unless you intend to not weight anything in everytime
I think there's a few obvious things you would need but that will vary with each tournament. A live well is a must and i beleive a backup airator is also on the cards for some tourney's next year.
Kingman there's a lot of truth in that though... I beleive a few of the top guys in some of the local tourneys don't drive bass boats.. hmmm although a canoe in a tourney just wouldn't work.

I'll bring my Sportspal, you bring your canoe, we'll raft em together. I can borrow my cousins 150 Evinrude............We in the contest!!
We may have to take turns blowing air into the cooler, but hey.
, I can bring two straws.
All things are possible when you just don't care.

Fishing Tournies without a boat
There is hope for anyone wishing to fish local tournaments without a boat.
Try the Ottawa Valley South Bassmasters
They encourage non-boaters to join and fish along with them.
I did exactly that this year and it has been a great time. I did get a boat this year and will compete next year in my own boat but I really appreciated that there was the non-boater ascpect of tournament fishing for me to try it out.
Watch for announcements on their meetings and go on out and check them out.

Do not be intimidated by big boats.....that only affects the first 5 minutes of the day....
Just pick your spots well...find areas that you won't have to travel far from to get there....
just think how sweet it'd be to bring in a nice bag from your 14 footer and watch the guy in the $50,000 rig struggle.....
no offence to guys in the big boats...

John said it right....the boat doesnt catch the fish....

Small baot no worries
As RJ said, don't be be scared off by the big boats. The late Steve Lee fished out of a 16ft tin boat with a 25hp on it and he was one of the best fishermen i have ever seen and placed well in numerous tourneys. As long as your boat has a working livewell, no worries and no tournament series in the area has a boat size restriction.
As Seaweed said, a great way to learn about fishing is to go into a pro-am(Renagade has an awsome event) or to join as a non-boater with a club like Ottawa Valleye Bass Masters. The knowledge from that will better prepare u for fishing tourney's.
As for what club/series to fish, well that's up to u. I would recomend Ottawa Valley Bass Masters, Renegade(Silver series) as a good starting point.
Hope this helps.
