Appelton:The Sequel

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Appelton:The Sequel

Post by U.L. »

As Fish-Hawk noted we met him on the ramp as he was coming off the river. Apparently late once again. Thanks for the info Fish-Hawk and it was nice meeting you. Hopefully we cross paths again.
Anyways, we were on the H2O for about an hour before we got chased off by a Thunder storm. We sat it out for about an hour. Thank God for bilge pumps. We then went back out and caught a couple of Hammer Handles, 3 SMs about 1.5 lbs each, a small perch, 2 crappie I swear were on steroids and a 2.8 lb pike. This was done with various lures and our ultra light systems. Around dark we had hits but nothing in the boat. All in all not a bad outing.

I've fished up there a couple of times this year and it really is a nice body of water. No crusiers, no jet skies, a couple of cottages but a good amount of water that doesn't seem to get too busy.

It's a nice place to go if you have a smaller boat or if you're trying to escape the wind. I don't know what the best sizes are to come out of there but we've pulled some fairly respectable fish out this year.

Oh yeah - I forgot to mention this to ya RJ, but I caught a huge crappie Thursday night as well. Caught it on a Mann's 5" Swim Worm.

I have never caught a small crappie at Appleton. I know they have to be small before they get larger, but I have never caught a small one.

And sand-bagged? Oh pullease! Need I remind you that Darcy had to be shown how to hold a spinning rod and reel at the same time as he reeled in those bass?

But I would be interested in a re-match.

Just to let you guys know.. My brother in law and I always fish there when we are not in tournaments. The biggest fish that we have caught is 4.2 Lbs. But a friend of my Brother in law said he caught a 6.5 lbs bass right near the launch. There are some really big fish in that part of the river and there are not alot of boats. Just watch out for hunters in fog who will shoot in the air because he hears ducks! Oh and the occasional small plane that like to buzz the river..

Alright RJ...I spoke to Bobber and you and your guest are in big trouble.

Bobber and I are going to be in the same boat for the third time this summer and I feel 10 lbs for top 3 fish are in order so ya better be on your game.

We'll be at the launch around 4:30 or so.

Well I'm home with my tail between my legs...

We ended up somewhere between 4.5 to 5 lbs....FH and Bobber had 8....

All in all a great night....between my dad and I we probably caught 20 fish....mostly smallies...

We hit a fly hatch and banged a bunch on baby chug-bugs...I had four on before my dad was even able to tie a chug-bug on....

Pics will follow...

RJ,

Here's another pic from last night with the first largemouth caught...

Image

Last night was a little slower than on Sunday morning but it was a good bite all the same. Grear to be on the water with Bobber again.

A strong case for a dual console...

I have also given some thought to the fish we had in the well at the end of the nite. THe pictures do include the bass caught before you showed up...just to clear up the confusion about that.
