shore fishing for group

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

shore fishing for group

Post by Junior24 »

Hey folks,
Just wondering if anyone could recomend a shore fishing spot in the Ottawa area that would be suitable to bring a group of about 20 students.
Thanks

Junior24, a place you might like to try is Petrie Island on the 174 and Trim Rd. in Orleans. Proceed north down Trim Rd. past the bait/boat rental place and there'll be a causeway crossing the river. Mostly riprap rock but if all are able bodied it'll be fine. You shouldn't have any trouble keeping tabs on everybody.

I was just out there this morning and caught 3 lmb and a chunky sauger in about 30 minutes using golden shiners.

Have fun,

Long Island locks is a good place. They have a dock for disabled people to fish and plenty of easy access for everyone. Lots of room and different spots to try above and below the locks and dam.

Hey folks,
Thanks for the reply, the students range in age from 12 to 18. All are abled bodied so we dont have any problems there. Where exactly is long island locks? I know I am showing my ignorance with this question but thanks again in advance.

If you're coming from the city, find your way to Hunt Club and Riverside Drive. Go South on Riverside Drive for a few miles (sorry don't know the distance). The road name will change to River Rd. Long Island Locks will be on your right. I believe the road is called Nicholls Island Rd. Take that road past a small soccer field, then you'll see the parking lot for the locks on your left. From the parking lot, you sort of have to walk through the trees to make it to the grounds and lock station. There's a small fee for parking.

If you make it to Rideau Rd (on the left) or the intersection of Mitch Owens and River Rd in Manotick, you've gone too far.

Hope this helps.
