Jiffy Auger

Joe,with a 10 inch auger, make sure to clearly mark the holes, when you're finished in the area.

Reason being,their silent leg breakers.

Picture someone running to a flag, scary result.

Add a light layer of snow over top............

P.S. We call them ice mines.

Big-O...it only weighs 23 lbs, but that is why I have a 4 wheel drive truck and when it can't go any further... thats when i unload the 4 wheeler(ATV) and keep on going..

Skein...I always fill in my holes when i leave. I stepped in one on the Bay of Quinte about 15 years ago. wet leg and sore shins almost ruined my day.

I wish everyone was as thoughtful as you Joe.

I stepped in 2 different holes,in the same day(2 different locations),on Simcoe last winter.

Nothing like limping back to shore, from 500 yrds out, pulling the hut,in 12 inch deep snow.

Thx bud Image

If this is your first Jiffy your gonna love it. I have had a 10" 3hp model in the past but found it heavy to carry on my shoulder so switch to a 2 hp. But if it is going to be driven out to the spots you fish you will appreciate the extra hp when there is 3 feet of ice to drill through. The one tip I would like to give is keep the blades from rusting as this can easily happen to the jiffy blades, personally I coat mine blades with Vaseline and have never had a rust problem, have seen many a rusty jiffy blade on others who don't take care of their auger. Also if you can find and extension it is well worth having in winters with lots of ice.

Go fishlips!

Iceman..... thanks for the tip. Do you use the vaseline after every use? when you come home? how often? Please elaborate as i am looking to take care of this so it will last a long time.

Does anything other than vaseline work well?

If you put a large gob on you do not have to reapply often, maybe every 4 or 5 outings.I usually drill at least 50 hole each day I'm out.
Look at the blades often though best when you put away after use just to verify still coated.
I have used the Vaseline on blades for at least 20 years and never had a rusty blade.
Well and truly hooked!
