Went to Sturgeon falls this weekend to try Nippissing with Buck and his 2 roomates (from Sturgeon) Cramer and Steve, the snoring Dubuc Bros. Left friday morn and got there at 2pm. Didn't fish, visit with the Dubuc's family, played poker and went to bed.
Saturday, left at 6am to be at the spot. 14 km's out into the lake got us to our spot. The morning bite got us 3 wallies, 4 ling, a pile of perch and a few mudpuppys. The ,idday slowed the fishing down other then a pile of small perch.
The evening bite found us bouncing around on the lake with one of the locals, trying to find his buddy's spot that has been yielding some wallies. Never found the spot but wasn't mad since the gent was hell-bent on showing us a good time. He even lent us his hut to pass the nite. He arranged the hut so that we had the equivalence of a king-size bed to our disposable with mattresses and sleeping bags. Kinda small for 4 guys but we managed.
Sunday morning, bright and early, we got 6 wallies, biggest was 17 and
19.5 incher (slot fish). Oh yeah also a pile of ling and a pile of perch. We split at 2pm.
One thing I have to mention was the kindness of the local crowd. We were recieved like Kings. The gent that lent us his hut to sleep also cooked us up a feed of ling. Also met a lurker, tried to convert him.
Buck has a few pics that he will post. It was a nice weekend. Fishing was better then I expected (expectations weren't to high). You get a idea of the fishery when the locals tells you not to expect to catch any wallies or when you ask them if there are any big ones around, they answer - My buddy got a big one last week, it was 19 inches. It's a good thing they got the slot.

Ratsotail,
the perch were small, the majority anyways. A few 11 inchers but that was it. The pics that Buck has will prove to you though that sometimes, snowpants, big mitts and a toque is essential, like early morning when the wind is howling.
WIG,
although I am sure we would have caught more wallies here it was a pleasant trip, out with the boys, meeting amazing poeple and an excuse to say, Hey, I've been there.
