Anybody see The New Fly Fisher on WPBS this morning?
They were fishing right here in town!
It was obviously taped last summer and water levels appeared to be pretty low.
It sure was fun to watch, though, and got my juices going. I can't wait until the water isn't so hard!
They were wading in Remic Rapids and caught some smallies. Later footage showed some pike hookups and sight fishing for gar. They boated a gar that appeared to be in the 30-36 inch ballpark.
They also showed the river being stocked with brown trout, and wrapped up the show with Colin, the host, catching a nice little brown.
So the rumors are true. You really can catch a trout without leaving town.
Bring on the sunshine!

Re: Fly Fishing the Ottawa River
I didn't see that show but wish I did... I'm dedicated to have a good 4 or 5 fishing spots withing 20minutes of my home(downtown ottawa). I plan on learning to fly fish this year so a spot like this would be great... where is Remic Rapids? Is there really trout in the ottawa river? I am familliar with fishing for smallies in the Ottawa and Rideau river and it is always fun even if they are mostly small smallies. What bridge of street is it closest to... As spring comes around... I would be glad to trade a few spots via personal messages...beadhead wrote:Anybody see The New Fly Fisher on WPBS this morning?

I cannot say for certain as the information I have is second hand but I think you'll find the most of the browns in the Deschene Rapids. I have a fly fishing friend who has caught quite a few. He fishes the deep runs and slicks that form behind boulders. He has his best luck with big helgramite nymph imitations.
