Ice Fishing Otter Lake...

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Ice Fishing Otter Lake...

Post by 'Bass'aria »

Any hawk-er's with suggestions on what to look for when ice fishing at Otter Lake? I am heading there this Saturday and have never fished it. I will mostly try to cut a hole 20 ft from shore. I hear its deep... :?: Your thoughts would be appreciated! A depth map would be even more appreciated!

I've wanted to hit Otter thru the ice as well..... :?

The lake does drop off very quickly....but not right at shore.....

The access point to drive on will probably be the boat launch...from there...I'd drive straight out...there is a point to your right...parallel to that point is the drop off.....good pike fishing there in the summer.....so they shouldnt move far from there in the winter......I've also seen some nice perch come off that edge....I believe Pike is closed now....

The only problem with trying to find these spots....is you could miss the drops by 3 feet...and be way down the edge....drill a bunch of holes....youll find it.....

As to how successful you'll be.....I have no idea.....anyone I ever talk to about that lake....says...."uhhhh...Otter.....tough lake"....

Good luck to ya!.....let us know how ya did!

Otter Lake

Post by Jigs »

Sbasaria

Otter has some nice smallmouth in the summer months. Sometimes they are few and far between, and sometimes not.

Otter has been stocked with rainbow (according to MNR) for the last few years, and I have met or heard of no one who has caught any.

A friend of mine has a house on the lake, and we have been out twice this winter. I lost a Ling at the hole, and he caught three ling after dark one evening.

Some other fellows have a fishing hut a ways out from the boat launch, and they have caught only ling, and very few of those.

Thats the skinny as I knows it. Sorry there's not better news.

If you drill a hole 20 ft. from shore, you will probably hit bottom. You have to go out quite a ways to get any depth. It is deep in spots. Just to the North of a big rock out about 1/4 mile it goes to about 100 ft. You might get a map at the store beside Dairy Queen in Carleton Place, or the bait shop in Smiths Falls on #15 South.

Best I ken do fer ya. Sorry it ain't more.
