Bass Pro Shops 2005 Spring Fishing Classic

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

All I'm trying to say is when this stuff gets put up on the board people then go to Ed's or Crystals and say I can get it at BPS for this price. I know that BPS isn't here locally but both Ed and Crystal sell BPS through their stores so it comes time to try and sell it people complain about it's not the same price as BPS. So then tell me what the difference is with these posts
Go to www.canadiantire.ca and click on the e-flyer logo and then winter sports section. Once in there you can find all the ice fishing stuff they have on sale this week. The paper flyer does not show the items that are on sale this week, it only mentions that these things are on clearance.
Just notice yesterday at CT that the power augers are on sale (100 bucks off). Anyone in the market should have a look. The CT in Bells corner was all sold out.

Also saw a portable ice hut on sale (again 100 bucks off).
Check the CT next to the Ball Park(Lynx Stadium) on Coventry Road. They have the largest selection of fishing gear I have seen compared to the other CT stores in this area.
the stuff is going fast, and none of their lures are on special. I was at the Bells Corners and Kanata stores today. Kanata had 2 gas augers, but the expensive ones ($600+). Lots of SwedeBore augers but very few FinnBores. A couple of Frabill ice tents at each store. I still managed to spend over 30 bucks at each store Got me some of those airplane jigs that Big Jim showed us on Saturday. Gonna try them out for lakers at the cottage this weekend.
I was just at CTC about 10 minutes ago in BC. They had a 3hp 8" for $415...save $105. Also had a 9" for $375, which I assumed was a 2hp because of the lower price. Not bad prices at all.
This is stuff that ticks me off cause of what happened to me last year. I left the peoples names out of the quotes because I don't have a problem with them it's how things get through on the postings on what can stay and what goes.

Hi Steve. I remember discussing this with you on this issue last year. As a result of you and Markus and a few others that were forcing the issue, we made a concerted effort to clarify the rules regarding self promotion and plugs by vendors. Since then, things seem to be pretty-well understood by everyone.

We apologize for any inconsistencies last year. But I do believe we have gotten much better this year.

So that everyone can understand where you are coming from, permit me to mention that last year you were a pro staffer for one of the local vendors. That helps put your message into a better context for everyone who doesn't know you and is wondering why you are feeling the way you do. Are you still a pro staffer?

If you want to discuss how you have been personally slighted by our policies, I am all ears and welcome a PM from you, or we can continue to discuss here.

Wish we had a paddle tales or baitcasters down here in georgetown! 10 yrs ago we had 2 small shops no more. Now I have CTC or Wallyworld! Today I drove over an hour to a store in the Niagara district (BPS is 40 mins from me) my choice but I like the smaller places that offer some local tips. Maybe I should ask Ed or Crystal about opening a branch store

I was just there yesterday ! In TO for business and I always drive right past it on the 400 when I'm there. This time I stopped in on the way to the airport.

yes, worth a visit. Huges store, lots of fun browsing. I bought some stuff but nothing with hooks because I was flying with carry-on only and they no longer allow fishing tackle. I didn't feel like checking a bag for a couple of lures.

Re: deals - yes some but you need to know your prices. Some nice deals on GPS stuff. All I can say is I'm sorry I missed the sale by a couple of days... If your in toronto, by all means go. Lots of stuff to see.

:D :D

Don't want to get involved in the controversy here, but I got a call from a couple of my fishing buddies tonite (not members here....yet) about going to BPS tomorrow for their sale, so obviously it's no secret, ....it will be my first time there, .....can't wait.
Not expecting any bargains, ....don't care, I have my local tackle shop, just can't beat the personal touch......

Think I'll take my camera......

By the way, ....how do you work all these smileys that suddenly appeared above this box :?

Not sure what I done, but there's one in the title, ...hope it don't explode

I just got back from Bass Pro shops (the sale started today due to a slip up re their ad in the Toronto star) and came away with abot $250 worth of gear. I think i saved about $70 on a real and maybe $50 on lures which is good. However I live here in the GTA and I got there a day early and by a fluke there was lots of what I wanted. That said no way are you going to save enough $ to make the trip from Ottawa and area worth the trip. I might also add the really good stuff i bought was in short supply on the first day of the sale. For example I bought a Johnny Morris Baitcast reel, lefthanded, and there were a grand total of 5 available. I bought 2(1 for me and 1 for my buddy). That leaves 3 left and the sale starts tommorrow.Bet there will be some disappointed guys re that product. Bought some Tim Horton Pro Series Long A's for $3.49 Sweet lure that costs $9 a Le Barons. There were about 10 of them in the store. I bought 3 and my buddy bought 2. There's a couple left. Act now. Bought Storm Bucktail jigs 2 in a pack for 0.99 cents ea. I bought 11. I think there were about 25 available. They have tons of BPS XPS hardbaits for sale, and they are very good lures but you only save $1.25 per lure. How many do you have to buy to make it worthwile to go to BPS 4 hours away from you. I love Bass Pro shops and Cabelas but you have to use your head and realize that saving $ is an all inclusive deal. Gas counts. Time counts. Mileage counts shipping counts.. That said there's some sweet displays at BPS including an aquarium that holds BIG Steelhead, Walleye, Buffalofish(they look like Carp that are somewhat hansome!) Crappie, Garpike, Smallmouth and Largemouth(one must be 12lb.)and very skitish Shad. There's Bass Pros dishing out info that you probably know about and some knowledgeable staff that are now familiar with the store and it's offerings. Bottom line if you are in TO go see the store. If you have no reason to come here, shop locally at vendor who supports your fishing community but do also insist that you get good current products, compeditivep pricing and good service. Many times I see local mom and pops that do not deserve to survive in their chosen retail market. I've never shoped for fishing gear in Ottawa so i don't know your sponsors shops but I know that if I did live there I would do my best to get to know them well. I would also not shy away from asking for prefered pricing, a selection of gear I wanted and after sales service to back up my purchases. I would also thank them sincerely for their support for this fishing website as I think it's is a pretty good one. regards Snidley
