Good point NN,
In ventilated area,NOT close to a furnace , dryer or any source of ignition.
Alot of good advice here on battery maintenance . Certainly , checking your water level in the separate cells is a good idea - exspecially on trolling motor applications when you recharge frequently as evapouration occurs during this process. Also , hydrogen gas is produced and is increased at higher charging amperages which can be a problem in tight storage areas. Battery plate sulfation is also a problem that can decrease the life of your battery , both cranking and deep cycles. There is a product that you can buy which helps in preventing the build up of sulfur on your battery plates. I believe it is available at a place called Total battery in the east end near Innes and Bantree roads. Another way to remove the sulfate from the plates is to apply higher amperage at the final stage of charging . I hope this helps out .
