Dog Lake

Dog Lake

Post by Northern King »

I was thinking of heading to Dog lake Easter weekend as I will be at my cottage on Charleston. Has anyone ice fished Dog Lake lately?? I am just wondering about the depth I should be fishing for splake and the bait. I was thinking of using shinners and maybe try some jigging spoons or white tubes. Any info would be great!!! :D

Hey BF!

While I haven't ice fished Dog...yet! I would think the depth could be anything too! We tried all day at Muskrat for the lakers in 100 FOW with no luck, only to move into 10-12 ft of water in early evening and what do you know, a Laker!!

I'd probably try 50-70 feet during the day myself. While at Palmerstom the other day, we were getting little extremely light bites, I didn't even think were bites until about a day later. Once I talked to someone who had fished it quite recently. He explained to me that 3 of the fish he had on, he didn't even realize it as they were just mouthing the minnow!

It was when he went to bring his line in, he realized, fish on :!:

My point is, watch for even the slightest twitch on the line. We had very active DACE minnows as I came to discover. I was bar-b-q'ing and myself and another guy saw what appeared to be a very small bounce on my rod. I'd bet now it was a Laker..I should've investigated further at the time. Too busy cooking :!:

Another option, try just a small hook with a minnow, add a splitshot or two and let 'er sit :!:

Wouldn't have minded trying it with you, just bad timing :!:

Goodluck :!: Let us know how it goes.

As you leave the big part of the lake into the narrower part, there is a big beautiful house on one side and a farmers field on the other, right in front of there I've been told is good for ice fishing. No idea on the depth actually! Just can't remember what I was told!

splake

Post by big stick »

I'm going for splake tom. but not at Dog. I've had some luck this year w/ splake using a small tear drop jig or the smallest and lightest of spoons or a hook and split shot as wig said w/ a blue shinner. We fish in about 15 to 25 fow. Splake to date 2x 2.5lb. and a 4 lb. over two seperate days. Pics should be available sometime in August, lol. Good luck bro.
