ice out?
I am heading north of huntsville to fish for lake trout. I will be on a small lake. I assume the ice is out but has anyone been up that way. Also what does anyone think about steel line for trolling. Any tips on lures or setups, live bait?
Last weekend the ice was still on most lakes up around Algonquin park. It was starting to receed from the shore, so hopefully the ice will clear off quickly. I'm taking my chances this weekend and hope to at least find a couple of the smaller lakes ice free.
You definitely wouldn't need the steel line this time of year. Troll, cast or jig anywhere from shore to 30 foot depths and concentrate on windswept shores. The trout should be there. I've had luck trolling the williams bully spoon early in the spring

This page has the ice conditions for algonquin park itself ... some lakes free, others still iced in. http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/news/iceconditions.html
so you may be able to guess if your lake will have ice or not.
