Fairly new to Ottawa, from Halifax, don't know anyone yet, friendless, no fishing buddies.

I have noone to get excited with me about fishing!

My wife hates fishing, my dogs jump out of the boat and attack the moving prop, and I can't even talk my cat into leaving the house!!!

I need fishing friends to go fishing with, I live in Ottawa, right next to Orleans..........help me.............I'm dying...................

I am also a transplanted Maritimer from Halifax. Grew up in Rockingham. Went to Halifax west high School. Allthough not in the Ottawa area. I am in Port Dover down on Lake Erie. Been here for 6 yrs. now but it "seams like I just left Halifax yesterday" Stan Rogers - Barrats Privaters for all you true Bluenosers. The fishing is alot differnt than back home. I cut my teeth fly fsihing for trout and back in my youth fishing the mackeral runs in the summer and cathcing cod and haddock right off the dock in Sambro. Back when there was lots of groundfish to be had. I always get in a few good mackeral fishing trips in the summer when ?I get back home for vacation. You can't beat having 4 mackaral on the end of your medium action spinning rod when they all want to go a different direction. I have actually had as many as five at a time a few times when you hit a school at the right time. 4 Mackeral feathers and a mackeral jig on the bottom. Oh boy what a scrap. Its all legal too.
However, there isn't any Pike except for its cousin the Chain Pickeral that you find in SW Nova. Some pretty good Smallie fishing, no pickeral, no musky, no bucketmouth but we have sea run Stripers and Shad that run up the Annapolis river. Markus you will kow that.
Well If you ever get to Port Dover look me up and we can head out on Lake Erie and look for the Mackeral schools together.

Marckus, I see you are from the Vally. My parents live outside of Middleton. Where abouts are you from?

As for the taste question in Beer, all true Bluenosers know that there is only one true great beer from NS. that is good old Alexander.s Keiths. Still holds the highest market share of any beer in NS. You go into the Liquore Store there and there is almost as much Keiths for sale as there is other beer.

heading out in the AM for some Pike, maybe to Bluff bar or the Inner Bay depending on the wind so hopefully I will have tight lines.

You truly bring back great memories of mackeral fishing, man I used to bring them in, and then I would stay later and get the squid with all the china men at the docks, it was good times. We used to hitch rides with the local fisherman and fish off the back while they cut bait.

Don't let my wife hear you. She really misses it. Hey maybe we can hook up for a steak at the midtown and go to a Moosehead game. How's that for some memeories. Maybe even stop for a Donair at Bash Toulaneys in the North End on the way home from the game.

Sure like those Mackeral pan fried. I can still remember my grandfather cooking mackeral and baked bean for breakfast. He was a Newfie. Go figure.

I'm from a little comunity called Mt Deson...it's between Windsor and Wolfville.

Lets get together for a fish next week, even if its just a perch fish. As much as my wife and I lovel makeral, yellow perch trumps it.

Good luck at the bluff bar this weekend, the pike are hitting out there. Remember, most of the inner bay is a fish sanctuary now....be careful not to drift into the no fishing area.

Didn't WIll Njoiku play B'Ball for SMU? Tom Dobson sounds familiar but I was there a bit before those guys I think. I was there in the early 80's.

I am pretty sure that I know where your from. I usually like to drive the old road instead of Hwy 101 on the way to visit my parents outside of Middleton.

Sure, would love to get out Perchin with ya. I do agree a Perch fry is pretty damn good. All of my family that has come to visit us usually turn their nose up unitl they try it and then they can't get enough.

I just bought my first boat (other than a canoe) a few weeks ago and just starting to get used to it and the lake. It will be my first trip out to Bluff's tomorrow. Launching form the marina in DOver. Looks liek about a 15 mile run on the chart to me. I just printed off the boundaries from the pic on Stomp's site and am going to transpose those onto my chart. Don't want to go anywhere near the sanctuary. Taking two 11 yr old boys with me (My son and his friend) so not sure how long they will let me fish before they get board. If we get fish that will keep them happy for a while.

Do you usually fish the inner or outer side of the bluff? Any tips would be appreciated. Will certianly let you know my results.

Thats a nasty run across there. No protection for the ride back if it happens to blow up on you. I'd suggest launching out of Turkey Point and take a bearing of 150 and head out that way...8 mile run from there and you always have shore near if you run into trouble.

I always troll the inside of the bar. Crankbaits that run around the 5-6 foot mark will catch pike. On clear days go with natural colors like silver, white and pearch pattern...on cloudy days go with chartruse, firetiger, orange.

Be real careful not to hit the bar. It comes up from 20 feet to 2 feet really quick. This way point will get you there safely if you have a gps - 42°35.284 80°11.763 .

Have a fun and safe trip. I hope you and the boys hook into a bunch of snakes out there.

Oh, and yes, Wil went to play for SMU after he graduated and then was drafted by the Indiana Pacers. He never saw the court though.
