Killing Off Weedbeds

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hey Wolfe,
They used this same practice about 10 years ago when my folks had a trailer on Pigeon Lake, part of the Kawartha's in Peterborough Ontario. The river part of Pigeon was extremely weed-choked, and every year or so they would have this big machine run out in front of the park in the channel, and of course, the swimming area. I remember that they would warn you not to swim for a week after spraying - yeah, no kidding!!
I seem to remember it messed up the fishing for a while, also....
Good Fishing,
Justin

Hmmmm....interesting....yet they are concerned about banning all lead lures and accessories? Personally, not that lead is a great thing....but I'll take my chances with that first b4 the chemicals. I think the chemicals would do more damage and spread further than a few lost sinkers or lures. Just my 2 cents.

The irony is not lost on me either, Kpin. Every spring / summer, the OCWA (water authority) people come a knockin' on our door with a whole list of questions with regard to our family's effect on the watershed of Otisco Lake. Personally, I don't mind the questions and am pleased to see they are checking things out (i.e., how many people in our family, how long since our septic was pumped out, # of pets(?), do we use chemical fertilizers or pesticides, etc.).

I still wish I could remember what it was they sprayed on the weeds. My friend told me, but I forgot. I'll try to get an answer on that next week, as it's bothering me.

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Wow, since they're the ones spraying the chemicals, they should also be asking questions about your health!
