Ottawa River Bite is Red Hot

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

No pics yet?

She was shooting normal film and said that there were still a few shots to shoot then develop them and then scan and email them to me... could be a while yet?

I went past the trailer this morning and no one was around....

I am sure that I will get something soon enough.

I can't wait.... gotta add it to my shelf at home.

She was a big fish for sure... maybe even bigger than the one I got last year......

Nice thing too is that there is one in that same stretch that could be a new world record fish... and I saw a big fin fishing today..........she is a smart fish the big girl.... followed baits back to the boat twice on me now. Some day we will dance ....

Seaweed,

Are you telling me you have seen a 70 plus pound fish?...twice?

A new world record fish will be approximately....65 inches long....with a 30 inch girth....

I think you and I both know that the next world record musky could probably come from the Ottawa River RJ

Come on now.... are you telling me that you think I need to string on a story about a big fish for three years now just to hear myself heard?

I am way to old to need to pull the wool over anyones eyes.

I am on to a very big fish and I am enjoying catching others while I try again and again for this potential World Record catch.

After posting that shot of the fish I caught last year and when you see the shot of the fish I got into last Sunday ..... well the quality of the fish I am on to are to say the least..... potential monster fish.

Why is it that every Musky guy needs to question every other Musky guys stories anyway. If anything you would think that one angler to the other would find it easier to believe in a big fish .... rather than doubt and demand evidence to substantiate a big fish story.

I hope you get some big fish this year. I got mine already and it is early in the year.... I suspect that I will be on to a few others before ice in. God willing someday I will get into this fish and take a photo and put her back to the water from where she came.... for the enjoyment of others.... even if she is a new World Record. I would rather she her swim away then have to die to get to a legal scale.

I hope someday to not need to be questioned on every Musky tale I share with others..... that day may come and then again it may not.

I saw a GIGANTIC muskie a few years back, now she haunts me, what could I have done to convince her to eat :?:

Now every time I'm in THE SPOT, everything I see, every splash I hear, every time I set the hook, it's her "The One" lol

All I'm saying is.......

I have no doubt you are seeing a large fish...and hope you do catch it one day.....

Reality is a new world record muskie is like a needle....not in a haystack.....but a hay field.....

A big fish caught is 50 pounds....which is an awesome fish and may happen 5,6, maybe 7 times a year.....add another 20 pounds to it...

Consider all those fish in the St.Lawrence floating dead.....in the past few years the "Larry" has produced a majority of the largest fish caught.....and out of the near 100 found......1 fish had potential...

Why do I question other muskie guys Seaweed?...cuz 95% of them are so full of crap...or full of themselves....or both...   ..Plus it's fun...

Good luck in your pursuit...I hope you prove me wrong.... :)

We have seen and had blow ups from 6 big fish this week. Now to be big fish they are easilly over 50 inches and to the less experienced eyes they sure can look much bigger.

I had a client get a follow and I only saw a couple feet of back and told him that was the one we were after, and that was before he told me he had seen her completely. Well for me when I see the fish is easilly 8 inches across the back well I know she's a mid 50's class fish. He agreed with my estimate.

I've been pounding the Big O for 12 years and the last 6 as a fulltime guide and I and clients have caught 3 fish over 55 inches ( 55-55.5-56) and I have seen one much bigger. World record? probably not but definatly in the 60 pound range ( was an easy 58 inches and thick ) and that fish would look like a 80 pounder to anyone who has not handled the dozens of 54+ inch 40+ pound fish that I have.
Catch and release them all

Well Seaweed I hope ya get her..and man it would be great if she was that big. I too have my doubts on the size but that is only because we have not yet seen one close to that come out of there.
Now if she is that big and I caught her..things would be a little different than what you say you would do. I know people will cringe but I would be keeping her..just too much $$ involved not to! I think most people would keep her and if not..then they are are crazy!!! I would definately keep any world record size fish of any species. The thing is ..I don't really think I have to worry about that decision..

Methinks the new world record fish (and possibly a few contenders) died in the St. Lawrence this past June.

The 64 incher I found might have been it. The 69 incher found by another local might have easily blown the record away. These fish were not weighed though.

I probably handled more large muskies (35 that were 50"+) this year than some people see in a lifetime. It is very easy to over-estimate the weight of these big girls- they are just so massive. I can't see a record fish being caught in the summer from any waters. My guess is a long fish, in the 60" range (probably over 26 years old) would have to have been feeding heavily for a while in the fall to smash the 65 pound mark.

On a related subject- I don't think anyone will get rich by catching a record muskie. If a guide does it, it will undoubtedly bring more business, but for an average angler I can't see how the $$ would roll in. Possibly some from the manufacturer of the bait used, but beyond that...

CCB,

It's funny....I was about to start a thread about what a World Record fish would bring to an angler....my guess......a bit of notoriety....but cash?....I wouldn't say much...

I heard awhile back a the new Largemouth record would be worth a million......I'm doubtful of that....it will come from one of those man made bass factories in Mexico or California...

One thing I do know....if someone was to break the muskie record....he will get ripped for it....for keeping it for his own potential gain....you know what the muskie fanatics are like....  Bill Craig got reemed for the way he held his Catch and Release record fish.....and is still shunned by the majority of the muskie fellowship....

Word was the St.Lawrence had the best shot at it.....and after the spring it had.....it make take another 15 years to do find out.... :(

Did ya pick one up on the Rideau yesterday?..I saw it added to your derby points...

It would depend I guess. A big outdoor chain with deep pockets might buy the mount like Bass Pro did with the Milo Hanson buck (world record legal deer, shot in Sask a few years ago). Imagine my suprise to be wandering the aisles of BPS in Virginia to come face-to-face with the Hanson buck. I'd easily believe that they would do the same for a world record fish, especially a bass. And if it happened to be caught on BPS-brand tackle (or the angler could be induced to say it was)....oooooooh baaaaabbbbyyy
KA-CHING!!!
