Gas prices going up up up and up

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Sounds like we need to move to the fixed price model like PEI has. What ticks me off is how the price at the pumps seems to be directly linked to the cost of crude. One would expect a trickle down effect, where we would not see prices changes until the say $70/barrel is refined and delivered to the retailers. To me it's more or less speculative pricing by the petroleum giants. By immediately raising the prices at the pumps they can increase their profit on gas that was produced from less expensive cude.

Just my rant...

Whats the problem: from 70 to 1.04 is only a 67% increase:roll:

I was talking to a couple guys with pleasure craft on my lake on sunday and they said then that there was a place on our lake charging 1.40 for gas. I wonder what it'll be there now.

my inlaws are driving in from calgary this weekend. talk about messing up their budgeting. who would have predicted $1.30 gas?
its crap.

High gas prices are an economic signal to...change your behaviour. If you think oil is expensive , look at what is happening to natural gas. That is going to make home heating and electricity costs soar. So, next time you contemplate:

that SUV
that bass boat with the 225 on the back
that 3000 sq foot house
that house with the big lot an hour commute from work

think twice.

This is what people voted for when they voted liberal and NDP - Kyoto - which meant higher energy prices. The only difference is that instead of governments skimming off the increase, the "windfall" profits go instead to the oil companies and the folks living on top of the natural resource.

At this rate it'll cost $9.00 to fill your gas powered ice auger and you'll blow $5 just snowblowing your driveway!!

You've got it right Topraider...only matter of time before people get it. With kid#2 on the way, was thinking of Minivan...but that may be out of the question now.

Thing is...not only do people have to get it, but industry too. What's GM doing building/selling Escalades which consume 20L gas / 100 kM ?

There is trouble ahead... :|

A hydrogen powered outboard would come in handy right about now.
The tough question is where would I get the water to run it??? :?

Cman, funny you should mention that about SUV's - there is an articles in Today's globe & mail about that - here's a snippet:

Quote:

"General Motors Corp. made the stark admission yesterday that sales of its large sport-utility vehicles are unlikely to ever regain the peaks of recent years as soaring gas prices and changing tastes quell consumers' enthusiasm for the vehicles.

The world's largest auto maker acknowledged that it has begun planning for a future when large SUVs will no longer be its main profit-driver.

"Given all the alternatives that are out there, given the uncertainty on gas prices, given some image factors, we think it's appropriate to plan in a more conservative manner," Paul Ballew, GM's executive director of global market and industry analysis, said at a preview of its newest SUVs at the company's design centre in Warren, Mich."

It should be interesting to see what the auto industry do in the towing market for our boats. I just trded in a SUV on a mini van for towing my boat. I have saved a few dollars on gas cost...and a huge amount on cost of ownership (Used vs New and Insurance cost).

Oh well...I am sure my friends and family in the UK are laughing at me with my gas eating toys and transportation.

cheers'

Anyone remember the 70's?
Gas prices all but killed the muscle car era of the 60's. We had a war to blame on it back then. Now I think it has more to do with lining certain pockets.

Here is a corelation to consider ... President Bush owns and oil company ... hmmm.
