What type of line do you use on your downrigger rods?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

shhhhh......

only thing i do, when using braid on the rigger, is run a flouro lead about the length of the rod....sometimes 8' or so....

tie it with a surgeons knot, and i promise you, your knot wont break...and you'll be able to reel it past the guides, basically allowing you to land your fish stress free.....

if you use a ball barring swivel, then you'll be forced to land the fish with the 8' lead still out (not being able to reel past the first eye of the rod)

as i said above, the main reason i use braid on my riggers is for the diameter...8lbs really fills a reel, and it gives you the strength of 30lbs....

btw, i always use 40lbs flouro leads salmon fishing, especially this year, with all the super tankers out there.
