Replica versus the real deal.....mount $$$$$$

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I think the question should be,

Musky to mount, replica or skin?

Personal choice on all fish though. I hope to one day add a big pike skin cause I've never caught a big pike. I'd also like a skin brookie. Other skins for down the road might be a largie, smallie, brown, bow, arctic char, grayling and laker. Maybe a second walleye too. Everytime I catch a decent pike and think this could be the next mount, I put it back with the intention in mind to catch even bigger. Yet, circumstances can influence the decision to keep a fish... ie, waterbody, time and effort, yada, yada. My eye on the wall ain't my biggest but IMO is my best.

The muskie... have to wait and see how I feel about the fish that day. Public opinion and education of the fishery could help me choose replica but, problem is, I do find alot of them look like toys of the real thing. And like I said above, if some circumstance tells me the muskie is a legal keeper... well... it is a trophy fish to me, just like any other, and just as hard to come by.

Gotta remember too, with digital cameras and the ability to snap 3 pics a second if you want, anyone can capture their trophy and mount it framed on the wall if they want. This day and age I'd bet alot less fish go to the wall as skins, because of the modern day push for C-P-R. Having the chance to take a pic, or many pics, is I think why my bigger fish go back, and I'd bet alot of others think the same way.

Skin or replica... money vs more money, not ethical vs ethical... all mute points when the moment presents itself on the water. Personal choice wins and as long as it's legal neither is right or wrong.
