Most guys need a Penn 309 to be able to load a full 10 colours....I'm actually surprised the Tekota 600 does hold it all...it doesn't look to be near the same size of a Penn 309...

A Penn 309 holds 350 yds of 30 lb..
A Tekota 600 holds 300 yds of 20 lb..
Your reel holds 320 of 20 lbs...

So maybe...

If you want to try it out....put your backing on....then start to fill the reel.....if it looks like it won't fit.....tie it off to something outside and pull it back off.....then restart the process....saves ya ruining the spool....

I'll assume you are using this for inland lakers?....Drop weights would do the same thing for you TMH.....and you can use lighter line and a much more limber rod....I've really pushed away from heavy rigger poles....for our inland fish.....they are no fun....Right now my favorite combo is a Heartland 7'6" medium...an awesome stick for our 2-7 pound fish....

I'm going to try and exchange the 27lb for 18lb and see if i can also exchange the PENN 320GT for a lighter reel....this one weighs 23oz and I find it a bit heavy....As long as I find a reel that can hold a few hundred feet of backing then I won't be as worried about losing a trophy Laker and will set the drag accordingly...

All of my inland trout fishing has been done with lighter gear either by using my fly rod, downrigger or my Offshore snap weight kit but these techniques have their pros and cons as well....I want to try more "stirring up the bottom" of the lake approach for large aggressive Lakers by bouncing my spoon off the bottom..I'd rather lose a few lures then a few cannon balls...

Here's what we're targeting on a planned trip next month with the lads... I was told to leave my lighter gear at home

......but as long as there's room in the truck, I'll bring everything but the kitchen sink

Another great option for you TMH would be running your riggers with a Jet Diver.....that avoids the fear of losing a cannonball....and you can really stir up bottom that way...

Myself I much prefer running riggers for lakers....I'm addicted to the rod bounce...

Good Luck on your trip...you must be headed way North if a fish like that is a possibility...they don't grow em like that around here...

When we are up there, we generally use riggers. With the winter we had, I thought we might be able to cast for them still (as we did our first year) but the ice is coming off quicker than I'd like. Given what I am reading, and the forecasts I am seeing, the fish will likely be in 30-60 fow when we get there. I am going to try planers for a bit, but then probably resort back to the riggers, if the fish are running lower.

Let's chat about the deep ones....I had a humbling experience up there a couple years back...very embarrassing, but I learned from it.

Bring up a few Williams whitefish, gold and silver, and we can show you where big ones have been caught in the past.

Are you bringing riggers up to?

if you want to get to the 50' mark, without downriggers, and tons of line out (10 colours of core, etc), try using the wire line with a 4 ounce keel weight attached....either pull it off a board, or straight out the back.

trolling at a 1.5-2.0mph, with the wire line, should get you right into the zone your looking for, but with a more stealth approach than the riggers.

Like RJ said I was almost sure it would fit because they have the same sink rate so I figured they would fit the same....

TMH I got a spool of 18lb lead core shipped from another store just for you! Let me know if u want it? Tell me you havent spooled the line yet?!?!!?

Ive also got a 309 for you if u like??!?!?
