which rod would you choose?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

A 7' M/F spinning rod paired with a solid 2500 size reel. Can fish most presentations and land just about anything that swims around here.

Brand is all personal preference.

Now now Andy, as every fly angler knows you're not supposed to use your wrist while casting..... unlike those flipping jig types. ;-)

Hrrrrmm,
That is a tough question as I like to cast, troll and jig for walleye.

So if it came down to one rod and reel for me it would be the G.Loomis WTR 941 with a Shimano Tekota 300 LC spooled with 10lb test line.

I can bottom bounce, troll, live bait rig, pull inlines boards or snap-weights and even cast cranks with this setup. Can't really vertical jig with it, but in a pinch I could drag heavy jigs with this combo or pull slowdeath behind a small bouncer.

A 6'10 MHXF Shimano Compre paired with a Revo SX reel spends more time in my hands than just about anything else.

Try the Shimano CORE! Magnesium! Light as a feather and casts like a DREAM....

I like the Cumara only issue is its Chinesse made....
Like guitars I get a little hesitant when I see "Made in China, Korea etc"

For $229 I'd expect really good craftsmanship. Don't get me wrong they are light and look sick, but I just hope they'll stand the test.

Jamsers,
If you get a chance try a Shimano Chronarch MG 50, these are very light low-profile bait casting reels. I like to use them when I jig for walleye as they are easy to hold all day long with very little arm strain.

I know I am strange as I like to jig with bait casting gear...but I find i never get line twist, great drag and easy for me to use when jigging with two rods at a time. (In states where it is allowed )

Beeman,

You're only saying an 8wt because you're going to get to fish for those big Sask pike this spring! ;-)
