ice safety

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Drove by the Ottawa and the Gatineau river tonight , both look to be in terrible shape , lots of water on the surface.

I drove over the Castor River right in Embrun at 5PM, poor dudes hut was almost bobbing. The Nation in Crysler (upstream) wasn't fairing much better..and the Payne...well that river is wider now than there was with ice last week.

Hopefully the water that is there moves through quick and and the run off slows up with the slightly colder temperatures the next few nights.

went to shirleys bay instead today. ice was 3 feet deep in 10-15 feet of water. took all of the aueger to get through. so much water. wish i had boot cleats. i walked on alot of people stil drover. way too much water. it was fun though, you guys better lift your shack or you will have to chip them out. had one but lost it at the hole. it was probably 1-2 pound fish. nothing else

Some parts of the river do not have 3' thick ice!!.....we measured ice thickness on Wednesday here on the Ottawa R in 15FOW and in this location it was only 18" thick.....Don't assume that there's 3' of ice everywhere...it's all dependant on current, shoals, depth, etc.....
