paint & carpet

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Yes I paint houses, and buildings, and cars, and furniture and kitchen cabinets. In homes, offices, commercial and industrial settings.

I've been at if now for 23 years. So there's a slight chance I do know a bit about painting.

Trying to get someone with no painting experience to use an electro-static sprayer is FOOL HARDY ! And yes I've even done that too.

I was trying to make it easy for him, not to overload with too much information.

Buy some marine grade paint or industrial grade enamal and go to town.

If you are using a spray can, mask / cover EVERYTHING you don't want paint on.

And yes I've painted my own boats before.

Have fun.
Actually I wasn't implying that he should go out , buy an electrostatic paint operation and try it himself....I was offering the option that if you google or look in the phone book that it is an option....alot of folks who are not familiar with various painting methods may not know that.

I think making aware the options is more educational than fool hardy......no?

There is a hugh difference in the quality of finish you get from the cheapest to the most expensive..the choice is available!

Seemed to me he was looking for all the options

Which he got

Cheers

Boat Painting

Post by Bait&Fate »

I refinished a 12 ft fiberglass boat in my garage. Dark blue colour with natural ash gunwales. Rubbed the entire outer hull down with garnett paper ... medium/fine grade, 120 - 220 grit. Applied 2 coats of a product called "Prime-it" obtained from Home Hardware, Applied with a brush. Final painting was 3 coats of enamel paint .. again from Home Hardware applied with a brush. No peeling or blistering experianced, even under the water line. Very satisfied with the result. I routered and installed new ash gunwales and finished them with a clear polyurathane. New transom .. inner 3/4 inch marine ply and outer plate of 1/4 aluminum. Benches were 3/4 inch marine ply with ash rounds on edges and cherry wood plugs to hide the c-bored screw heads in the benches and gunwales. Have pictures, just need to figure out how to post them .....

Ended up selling the boat and homemade trailer for $350 ... needed the room!

Doug you are most certainly correct in your point in that my experiances in restoring my Ranger 350V was of no use what-so-ever. I apologize to you that I had the gaul to assume that I had anything of value to contribute to this thread.

Hmmmmmmmmm, seems I am touching raw nerves here, which ain't my style nor my desire.

For anybody whose feelings were hurt by anything I wrote, I apologize without reservation.

And for bardern, your post would have been one of the ones that I thought had "Valid Points," to which I referred.

This will be my last comment on this thread, and I will continue to ignore the personal comments.
