Calabogie report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

No luck!

Post by Ohridska Pastrmka »

I was at Calabogie for some trout this Friday and I didn't get any bite.
It was my worst fishing day ever....gorgeous day though!
Visited at least six trout lakes around with no even one hit. I've used worms, trout paste, preserved grasshoopers, salmon eggs....tried different techniques...nope...nothing!
Other people at the lakes have had a bad day too.
I may go to Renfrew tomorrow morning to fish in the rain

That's too bad about the lack of bites.....You would think that the bite would have been better considering the beginning of the new moon

I wonder if it has anything to do with the reports I've heard recently about the Bogie Lakes getting pounded this winter by ice fisherman 8)

Oh well, a day on the lake is better than a day in the office

Calabogie trout - - - - "No bites"?????

Post by Ohridska Pastrmka »

No bites for three weekends in a row
Other people that I have talked to last weekend had no bites at all as well.
Either you fish from a boat or you fish from shore results are the same...
It looks like that most of us will have a very quiet fishing season!!!
This is not the case when fishing in Quebec based on some of reports that we got recently.
Not really sure what this may be caused by;
1. Poorly stocked lakes in Calabogie and surrounding area
2. Havelly fished during the winter months or
3. Weather factor

Anyone else has the same experience? Any clues folks?

MNR stocked most of these lakes twice a year, last time they stocked was at end of March this year, through the ice.

How do you know this? Is this in a report?

I've been to several lakes in the area since ice out and haven't caught anything either but I've marked fish, had hits, seen fish miss my dry fly and seen more than a few rises.

Some days there's a reason it's called fishing instead of catching.

Traditional stocking periods are usually May and Nov (for fall fingerlings). For the remote lakes that cannot be access by the stocking trucks, the MNR utilizes helicopters to dump the fingerlings.
