Does this happen often???

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Interesting for sure - Having a cat hit a crank bait would be unexpected to me.... I generally would expect them to use their sense of smell rather than sight or vibration. Maybe your crank had an odour from an earlier catch?

Out4trout,

No, and that's the funny thing.
I was using a CHEAP Blaze brand (Wal-Mart) dark perch crank with a rattle. This was its "maiden" voyage!

There were alot of pike and a few bass where we were fishing (visible) the pike seemed to lazily follow and the bass had 0 interest! In fact the only "bass" caught was a Rock bass and Canmoore caught that one.

There was no smell on the crank.....

Needless to say we were both VERY surprised as Canmoore fishes bully's on that body of water and so done so for well over a decade. They use worms etc (the conventional way I guess????)....he has fished those spots for a long time and has never once caught one on a crank or jig etc.
