Smallies on ice! harmfull or harmless

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

The only issue I'd see is overharvest....they stack up under the ice....and if limits were being taken it'd be a piece of cake to hurt a population....

I'd find it hard to beleive the "stress" of being pulled up on 3 pound test and a 24 inch rod "hurting" a Smallie....maybe his ego a bit...

HmmMMM im still confused here.

theres guys on this forums and other forums that can swear that ice fishing for bass harms them.

but they dont seem to reply.

cmon guys give me the facts.

as it is now. 100% of us say its harmless!

whats so funny about this is that 90 % of the time the people talking about ice fihsing for bass and how its harmfull... dont actualy fish them during the winter.

what realy bogles my mind is WHY o WHY!

here in quebec bass is open and in ontario its closed.

and here the trout is closed and open in ontario.

WHY .

Sure must be fun to target them smallies. They have nowhere to jump so I can just imagine the fight it gives.

not much of a fight my man not much!

a 4 + gives a small fight but the rest.

i might compare it to a BOQ waleye.

like brigging a wet sock or something like that.

lets compair it to this.

a 4 + smallie fights like a 2 lbs pike

Really just joking...... you're right, not much fight to them at all for the most part. On the lighter sticks they are more fun.

I guess they'll do 1 jump and then have too much of a headache to do anything else.

I wasn't expecting you to take it any other way.

At least you got out there this winter which is more than what I can say for me!

And considering your winter season, there's no need to add a BOQ eye. More fun to meet new guys anyways.

Lol I knew you hadn't spent much time down there....

Those fish are funny. Most time they don't fight too hard but the odd time when you hook a big one they put up a stink and bulldog a bit.

I'm sure you'll get one soon enough :D

The fish that I've got there trolling don't really fight.... but I've never got a big one either.....
