Growing up I always said if I ever catch a Largemouth over 7 or a Smallmouth over 6 I was going to get it done. Well, after finding out about Advanced Taxidermy, I was determined to get a fish that size so a few years ago when I got my 7.1 Largemouth I took all the measurements & photos needed and gave them a call. I am so glad I went with the replica. I think they are far superior to skin mounts, also the fish gets to stay alive. That way...if you are unsure if you want a mount, or you change your mind, the fish didnt die for no reason.
Now all I need is a Smallie over 6 or another Largie over 7...
See no real reason for a skin mount in this day and age. Besides, I could just never see myself "bonking" a trophy fish over the head that has alluded me for most of my fishing career...
Any of the big fish I have caught (including my 6lb largie) hang in my office, displayed in a picture frame in a beautiful image that has been enlarged. To be honest - I think this is the way to go. Get a whole wall of images going and they look awesome. Or, take some great shots and get a replica done. Skin mounts are a thing of the past, at least in my belief, and I believe there are much better ways to "show" off that once-in-a-lifetime fish, without resorting to killing it.
(After boating that 6lber that I put over 15 years into catching, seeing it swim off into the clear water that day....well, that alone means the most...)
Just my 2 cents...
Good Fishing,

Yeah! Sombody agrees that you dont have to keep a big fish to get it mounted, or especially EAT! I hate it when people eat the big ones! Whats done is done though! At least catch & release is getting spread across the world!
