Ordering from the States

your guess is as good as mine!
i've seen me buy used stuff off of ebay and have to pay duty and gst/hst.
i've seen me deliver a pkg on monday, and deliver an identical pkg to the same address 3 days later, and it will have a different COD price on the tag. i don't know why the X services don't get a brok fee??? it was actualy a customer that told me that.
i try very hard not to ship UPS when ordering from outside of canada. i've even canceled orders because they will only ship UPS.
"never mind, i'll spend my $2500.00 somewhere else, and by the way, i drive for UPS"

there crooks!!! plane and simple.

Wow, no issue biting the hand that feeds ya? I supervise the docks at a local company in Ottawa...I find the UPS drivers the absolute most courteous, and professional of the several couriers we deal with..Everyones experiences will vary, I have had zero issues personally with UPS.....maybe 15 cross border shipments per year..

I don't beleive they're crooks, you get what you pay for, which imo they are the best of the best with extremely easy trackability...I had a Christmas present go missing from Musky Hunter last year, using USPS...what a nightmare to track that....they're cheap but they're govmnt run, and slower than UPS.

As for why you get dinged duties and taxes at customs, it is a crapshoot they can't physically stop every single parcel coming over to charge appropriate duties and taxes, after investigating what each parcel contains. "Xpress" shipments get through much easier without duties and taxes because you have probably paid a little more for that priority shipment service. Cdn customs respects priority shipments and must push them through quickly...

As for duties and taxes, I have no issue, the dollar is basically even, prices in the states are a fraction of what they are here, not to mention the availability of common items that here are considered unattainable/rare....

Just my opinion, Plain and simple.

as a driver, its my job to be nice to everyone, yes, even the meathead that cuts me off, or runs a stops sign in a parking lot and flips me the bird. most receivers i deal with r more than pleasant. its a good place to work, pays well, with pension and benifits, etc. most of the people r good.
i do feel bad for all the people that have been burned by a brokerage fee, including the little old lady, on a fixed income, thats getting an xmas gift from her grand kids in the states that we tacked a brokerage tag to of $100.00 thats crap, what happen to free trade and don't feed me that political BS!!!

to make matters worse, ups no longer excepts cash for COD's, thats right, now you have to wright me a cheque for $3.35 or incur the interest on a credit card.

i'll bet it takes me 30 min to wait for that little old lady to find her cheque book and wright me a cheque for $3.35 its not her fault, but hey! UPS just elliminated X number of jobs because they don't need those people to count cash any more so they can pay me to stand around and wait.

guys, just try and remember, its not the drivers fault, we didn't do it, and screaming at us isn't going to help....its just a job
