Derby Teams

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

RJ's the man!!--these points were the same as I was thinking. I started feeling sorry for the captains. This will start to target bigger quality fish and not quantity of fish.

As I've stated before if we are only going to take the top 5 fish per team the chances of me contributing to the team are slim :( and it's not much use me being in it at all and I'm sure there are others who feel the same I am all for eliminating the quarters but keep going the way we are. team members should keep track of there own numbers and only notify the captain when they know they have a good cull fish if we eliminate the quarters that means less and less work to keep the stats

I prefer the option number 1 myself....that way everyone can contribute...that's what we want!

I think targetting the larger fish and highlighting them is what I think would make this really cool!

I think if all teams have an even amount of members...then we should wait to add new anglers until we have 6 in waiting...

The quarters should also be gone.....

The problem now is do we change everything down to one fish per species per angler now and recalculate?....I don't know how much that would change anything points wise....

I personally think we should only count a teams top five fish. I hear ya topwater, but how pleased will you be if one of your fish does count. Not everyone on a hockey team scores a goal during the playoffs, but they all try pretty hard.

I also think that since that since less fish will be registered, that a picture with a ruler should be necessary. I know this may be tough, but i hate wen theres doubt. nobody wants to read ccb's inquisitive posts about another persons questionable catches.

I know it's all for fun, but it'll be a lot more fun in the end if the winners are determined without water cooler comments going on.

I too think we need to get rid of the quarters.

IMO I like the 5 fish per species it allows me to enter more fish even if the number of species I catch is limited .

I don't see the difference whether I'm targeting the one largest fish or the 5 largest fish , my objective is still to catch the largest fish

I think if all teams have an even amount of members...then we should wait to add new anglers until we have 6 in waiting...
wasn't this addressed in the rules in that if one team had say 16 and the other teams had 17 than only the top 16 wold count

If that is the case where only the top 16 count.....I guess I assume John is taking care of that...because I'm not... :?

this effectivly eliminates many that don't have digital camera or a means to scan a picture and IMO goes way beyond the scope of a fun derby :?

This derby was put together in like 3 days so sure there will be issues so we look at the complaints and make changes. I dont like only the largest 5 counting I dont get to fish even every week so I like the fact that my points help the team and would bum if they did not count. Granted Im not keeping score so I cant speek to this. Are all people pming results or are capts. having to pick thru posts? I would suggest all results should be pmed. Thats my 2 cents (US)

As a participant and not a captain I'll make a short comment.

The derby is a lot of fun and has added a bonus to my recreational fishing. I fish for relaxation and enjoyment but it adds more to the fun part than anything.

So no matter what you guys choose I think you'll find most of us are not really intereste in minning as much as we are in just being able to participate.

There's been a couple of times when I've got a fish and will say lodly enough for the other people around me to hear "that's got to be close to 100 points, or "c'mon pike, I need the points" Those people who are not involved are missing out on a lot of fun.

Keep up the good work but remember it is all about having fun.

and, the fish will be thanking us. At this point they must be wondering what Mr. Popular fish is getting hitched, seeings as how they're all being tailored and suited.

I like this point/plan RJ. I know what (and most know what) they're biggest fish is for each species. With it simply in mind, most can look at the next catch and say, "hey, this ain't the one, better get casting."

And yeah, the perch thing sucks.

There's a lot to be said on this topic!

I hate saying it but I wouldn't want to be a captain with the size of the teams right now! They are far too big to properly keep track. How about limiting the team sizes to 10. Allows the team captains to properly manage team points. This could possibly bring the teams very close in score but would create a little excitement.

This would allow for new captains to step up to the challenge and join in on the fun. I'm sure you'd have a lot of people wanting to assist.

Once the teams are full, a waiting list can be created for new folks that want to join on a team. Let's say you wait until there's 4-5 new people and out of those 5 a new captain is chosen and they start from there starting to keep their points.

The top 5 fish per team reduces the scope of the initial derby fun but the top fish per angler would be a good alternative.

Just my 2 cents on this topic because it's been a lot of fun.

What ever is decided it wil still be fun but if I can help any (mainly my captain Markus!) to offload let me know.
