Un-Wanted Fish....Great Idea!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Interesting post taking some amusing twists  RJ I would definitely say that Derbies run over a week or more on lake huron and Georgian Bay definitely bring money to the local communities, many fisherman plan holidays to coincide with them or at least fish them more than one day staying over in motels etc. they are like deer hunting season for these communities. As for a one day tournament I haven't witnessed one so I can't comment. As for the fishery I believe it was established to eradicate ale wives, seems on many great lakes that has been accomplished! The MNR is now more focused on stocking fish such as lake trout which are natural and hopefully will naturally reproduce. The fish in the photo, well from another thread asking what body of water would you eat fish from the majority considered great lakes fish unfit for human consumption. Thats a shame, maybe we should be more focused on cleaning them up and keeping them that way.

interesting thread....
lot's of differing opinions.....
this is a great idea - bears gotta eat too.
the evil of tourney fishing - it happens, so be it
transportation over the limit - i'm guessing if it's in releation to a zoo or wildlife facility they have the appropriate permits required to transport
as for the moral dillema - sure, everytime you drop a line, a fish might die, but you gotta make a choice...
to fish or not to fish that is the fish.... uh question  .

Guy LeDouche & Jenna Bass:

You two should hook up and have a big party. So hostile, sheesh!

Anyway...

You can CERTAINLY be a fisherman/woman AND be pro- conservation. I think many on this site would disagree with your statement, Jenna. I, for one, most certainly do.

In any case, the insulting comments are not necessary; an exchange of views can be discussed like adults, eh? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether it be of a conservative nature or not -- and shouldn't be verbally blasted or insulted.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Jenna, tsk. You can certainly be defined as conservationalist and fisherman, period.

Guy, thanks for dropping by. Your contribution will be felt for seconds to come...

Ah controversy rears its head again. If the fish are doomed to die and will not be consumed by humans, why the hell not feed it to the bears? Some of the regs are within a grey area, I would think that any C.O would agree, that the spoil of fish is far worse then them having a positive use. Personally, I think it would have worked better if the derby fishermen would have kept their catches and had a nice meal but hey its not quite a perfect world now is it?

Just my 1 1/2 cents (after taxes)

Guy is Lowkey and Jenna Bass is either HawgWabbler or sitting on his lap. Take their comments for what they are...attemps at pot stirring.

I enjoyed reading your comments guys. RJ, I find it interesting that you don't see how salmon tournies put money into the local economy...the entire salmon fishery injects $$$'s into the local businesses all around the lakes. These tourny guys fish steady all year for these tournies...releasing just about everything until derby day.

Jenna Bass isn't Hawg Wobbler, I know that for a fact.

As for the thread, I think there is nothing really wrong with all those salmon being kept for zoo food as long as it wasn't breaking any laws (i.e. over posession limit without a permit of some sort).

This was a good thread. I don't think there is much more to discuss and I dont like the turn it took at the very end. Accusations of stirring the pot will in fact stir the pot. Keep it out of this thread.

As for the insulting comments - when will people realize that their insults do not make them look as smart as they would like to think they do? Seriously people, if you can't add something useful to a thread without tossing in some name-calling or insults, please don't bother.

This thread is locked. If anyone feels like they have something useful to add to the discussion about the salmon and the bears, they are welcome to send me their comments and I will add them ver batim to this thread.
