flouro carbon leaders/line

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

fluorocarbon leaders

Post by Superdad »

I am using an 8' leader attached to my braided line via a swivel. I had an incident last fall that disturbed me greatly. Hooked a LARGE fish and while waiting to pass the rod to my Partner ( we take turns), the line went limp.

Reeling in I found the leader had broken - boy was I cheezed off. I suspect that I had nicked the leader and under the strain of a big fish, it broke.

I will continue to use the fluorocarbon leaders on my trolling rigs, BUT, I will be checking a LOT closer for nicks and scrapes.

I think that's the ticket for clear water like the BoQ.

PS. Still looking to replace the lost lure - boy some lures are tough to find. :(

abrasion

Good Point Dave,flouro-carbon lines are stiffer that other lines and cut easily. While landing over 100 eyes last fall,we had one break off ,and always checked for abrasions after each fish was landed and trimmed and new knot in place, roughrider
