Favorite Pike Lure

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

4 feet or less Buzz baits :!:

Larger jig/grub combos for anything deeper :!: More so to appeal to everything else!

If on a lake known mainly for Pike, then spinnerbaits :!:

Ok, I read through and no one mentioned.

Canadian Wigglers, we had a ton of Pike last year trolling these. Lots of wobble.

Nothing else seemed to work that week, (Spinners, Spoons, or other slim body baits) The Brass Wiggler was the ticket. Silver Blue or Purple or even Fire Tiger, colour did not matter, ot was the wiggle they were after.

My main spoon to use after saying all that is a Blue/Silver Cleo. Love them.

Normally go with a silver inline spinner first. #5 or 6. Second, Len Thompson red and white spoon (white with single red stripe)

This year I'd like to try (after reading Pyzer's latest in OC) some bigger soft plastics like those used for saltwater fishing. Slow presentation for those days the two above lures aren't working. :?

I really enjoy being turned onto new lures and before fish-hawk I had to be fishing with someone who caught a nice fish on a lure before I knew of something new, now with fish-hawk everyone is throwing out their favorite lures and I get to find out about them this way.

Ok did a search on Suicks. Sure it's all about advertising on their web site but there will definitly be one on my box very soon, I'll be looking for them on Sunday in Carp.

Thanks M3

As a kid and the youngest of 4 I had only hand me downs and fishing was no exception. The tackle box had only one good lure in it, a red devil. Pike love red devils so pike was the only fish I was catching as a kid and is my favorite to target. I meantion this because the Suick I need to buy is the red and white one.

I find black or red/white bucktails, spinnerbaits with red in it.O.K. any thing with red will get you pike.
Also the bigger the bait the bigger the fish.

Large gold metallic-finish Ripplin' Redfin.
Gold back, orange belly Jensen Minnow.
Black over silver Husky Jerk.
Chartreuse buzzbait.
Jighead or plain hook with a big dead minnow. Just let it drift in the current.

WATERKAN wrote:Hi all,

Just wondering what your favorite lure to use for pike is.
Poor guy, he writes asking for pike lures and he gets overwhelmed with all kinds of different ones.

If there is anything Waterkan and the rest of us have learned is that pike like just about everything and we fish-hawkers like to use a large variety to go get them with.

I don't think anyone mentioned a large, white, Cotten Cordel.

Ok I just bought on, not the 12 inch one but I think it was 7.

The instructions on use seem pretty straight forward but I am going to ask if you may have a tid bit of info on using a suick.

I had read, and kept a copy, of an excellent article written by justin hoffman on using a zera spook and using the technique of walking the dog. I understood very clearly his instructions, as I do the ones on the suick lures.

But I was very surprised when I got to see a video of someone doing the walking the dog technique and the lure was racing really quickly. This was not how I had imagined the technique would have worked. So again I ask if you may have a little tid bit pointer to throw in as well.

Thanks :D

Mr. J a Suick can be worked a variety of different ways.

You can work it the way it says on the box, 2 to 3 foot pulls with a pause in between. Or if it is a likley looking spot short six inch pulls to finese them into biting.

I like to work mine fairly eratically. pull-twich-twich pause twich-twich-puuull pauuuuse etc.

Or you can just constanly reel it and throw in a few twiches on the way.

Let the fish tell you what they are looking for that day.

They key to a Suick is getting the tail at the back bent just right (usually about 45 degrees or less) to achieve the action you like.

Hope this helps, good luck with your new weapon
