Did I Miss Something?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I'll amen to what Jaz posted and others aswell.

I joined this site 2 yearsd ago almost 3 (April 03) and got onto what I saw as the most helpfull board on the WWW. I posted a few chromer shots and was rewarded with kudo's and asked for tips to wich I was so happy to share!

2 weeks later I nailed a pig, and she was a pig, at that time my biggest ever Steel, come home to share with some new friends via FH and 3 posts in I got attacked for the apperal I was wearing   Went to war a touch on pm's over the subject and that was it. I had met so few only at catfest in 03 and thought what a great group! Bacon was still fat, RJ was still keeping secrets  And Markus had a lauff I will never forget! Met Hawk, and Bobber aswell, and If any of you remember I AM THE ONE WHO STARTED THIS WHOLE $HIT STORM OVER OOS PICS Yes I was the original TURD PILE MOVER on the whole thing back in 03. So I was held in regards by many, but not by a few for thier beliefs and that was fine, but I was one of the gang :D

Man, and I mean MANY friends I have met, fished with, shared beers with, or just a chat on the internet or on the phone, who I plan to continue to speak with for many more days, came from this site, yes FH.

Have I moved onto other things? Yes I have a new job, I have between Rox and I 2 out of 4 kids going or begining puberty, yes I said that out loud :P and along with the $hit storms and what starts as a snowball post turns into an avalance because someone says its not ok to hold a fish like that or you weren't fishing properly cause you were using a NON Barbless hook blah blah blah Honestly doesn't warrant my time to bother much anymore. I stronly feel that this site will continue to grow, and more and more great people will come and go, but heck thats life kids grow up and move away from home, people get old and take a dirt nap, I personally want to devote more time to my kids, family, and health than sitting on one board that I don't see making the time worth it to hang around as much, and when there are other sites and people to meet out there too.

Last but not least there is one kind of major reason for a lack of posting, and I won't reveal who but there was a trip to Quinte with the board back in 05. I had planned to meet Markus up there to exchange a rod and reel he had bought, and I left some roe at his place and it was perfect cause it wasn't far from home. I said I'll show for a quick beer and say hi, and then Rox and I are driving west to Trib fish for the next day.

I arrive, and was greated by the first person I saw with a friendly ("What the F&*K are you doing here") And the person left the cabin, and Big Jim offered a huge "HEY EVERYONE FLOAT"S HERE" :D :D :D The Big Guy was happy to see me along with everyone but a certain someone who didn't recognize me as a fellow HT'er, but someone who hadn't paid for the right to be there and that's what I got instead. I sshowed for a 1/2hr people, that was it, but not only was I greeted by everyone else, 98% of the people there asked if Rox and I wanted to bunk with them for the night and get a fresh start on the drive the next day :D That right there people shows that there are great people on here now, before and will continue to be.

We haven't left the planet, we've just moved or are exploring new things on the World Wide Web is all.

I'll continue to post until I'm either kicked off, (Which I don't really see happening) or I loose my fingers (Which I don't see happening  )

But my #'s of posts will drop, and though I wont be on here as much, as always if there is ANYONE who has a question regarding, float fishing as a whole, Baits, gear, locations, times, ETC, I am only a pm away :D

Tight Lines, and regards:

Float.

When you get a group of people this large on line -- and at get togethers -- there are bound to be some blow ups, for sure. This site has gotten quite large and there will always be trouble makers and those who like to spew vindictive garbage. That's kind of "just life". It's just too bad that some feel there was enough of that here to incline them to move on.

I'm always happy to see your posts, Kevin; it's nice to know you haven't completely ditched the site. There are still plenty of good people on board and you help to make this a more refreshing place to hang out -- and of course your trout & salmon threads are a blast...what would we do without your wet clothes pictures, anyway? No one tells a story quite like you do. And jaz, I wish you'd stick around; I always look forward to your participation in threads.

One thing more I'd like to mention. As brow beaten as some are feeling about OOS pics, catch limits, C&R and how to properly hold fish, I don't think that having concern over some or all of these topics makes someone an butt; some of us are more conservative. The flip side is perhaps we feel the same persecuted way, just because we chose to speak up.

I think it's more the way the opinions / advice is presented that causes conflict. It's been said before: keep it respectful. And if you have had your say and someone isn't buying it, then MOVE ON. I think one thing I've learned personally is that I don't have to agree with certain people to like them and look forward to their contributions to the site. Tolerance has a key place here.

Well, I miss those that have chosen to leave, but I'm not weeping or anything, ya know? Hope all are well and enjoying a safe & fun ice fishing season. :D If they ever choose to return to say HI, we'll still be here & would enjoy hearing from them.

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

I've seen and been a part of a few online communities.. and the popular ones have a very similar lifecycle:

1) Birth. Members join, chat and share knowledge.
2) Childhood. Membership increases. More experienced members gain respect and authority on subject matter.
3) Adolescence. Experienced members grow unhappy with the direction of the community and post lengthy articles about what's wrong.
4) Moderation. Rules are drawn and enforced.
5) Moving Out. Experienced members leave, vowing never to return. Some form splinter communities.
6) Middle Age. The community continues on, and new members fill the ranks of the old that have left.
7) Old Age. Years later after their own communities have withered, those who left return looking for people that remember them. No one does, and no one cares why they left.
8 ) Death. The community itself slowly fades away because the technology that enabled the sharing of ideas is replaced by a newer technology.

And the cycle continues on.

Don't worry.. the death part isn't coming anytime soon. This place is still in middle age.... but getting a few grey hairs ;)

I figured I'd reply here than to the 6 PM's I've received today about this...

Like many others my posting has dwindled.....for many reasons...many will point to Markus' site as the culprit....but the way the site has gone in recent months has made me question my participation at FH.....

I blame myself for not being able to ignore the OOS pics ridiculous debates....the Fishin muskies with a conservation license BS...or the Catch and Release Ethics pumping...I've just grown so tired of it all....

I did become involved in helping out the site in the background....a move I regret for reasons that need not be discussed but it soured me I think....having a target put on my back as a monitor was something I could have done without...

I'll be around.....lurking... ...and posting when I think I can help someone......I still do enjoy most of the content....and the great people that I have met here.....

Without FH.net....days like this would have never happened...and I thank FH.Net for that....

Regardless of who is or isn't posting this is still in my opinion one of the best , friendliest and most informative sites around.

Part of this sites success is the hard work of Fishhawk and Bobber :D :D
Then there are all the great folks that make up this great community.
There are bound to be the odd dust-ups (as with any group for friends), but in the end we all shake hands and get back to fishing.

Those who are not posting as often or who are exploring other avenues are not dead. Their posts ,insite , opinions , help ect. will be missed but life goes on.
I look forward to bumping into any new or older Hawkers on the water.

Now get back to fishing...I need more fishing posts to get me though this winter. Come on soft water
