Huge Bucketmouth

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

One more quick thought on keeping huge bass for the wall. I don't mind saying I'm delighted this one was released. The replica we had done of Tyler's trophy bucketmouth is just fantastic. We just had a fisherman in our cottage earlier this morning who didn't realize it was a replica. We bucked up for it and it's well worth it, and double the pleasure because we got to watch the "real thing" swim away".

Replica is definately the way to go...The price is well worth it...I got my trophy done by Advanced in Toronto, it was worth every penny...In my opinion, Skin mounts dont even come close to looking as good.

While I'm happy it was released, Fatluke is right, no one should judge.

all these posts, and not one person asked WHICH LAKE!!!!!

I do not recognize the shoreline, so that rules out a bunch of them......we have caught some seriously large bass in the park. I was past it today in fact, but did not dip a paddle nor wet a line. TOMORROW, however, I reckon our favourite Frontenac Park lake might get a visit. That one gave me a largemouth between five and six pounds (released/not weighed/my estimate) and a buddy of mine from Pennsylvania caught one when I was with him that surely would have gone north of six pounds (released/not weighed/same), and one of his brothers took a dandy that was even bigger. As one person already remarked, the park coughs up some seriously big fish.

I am not sure what the Big O joke is, but there is one of the park lakes, back a long ways over several portages, that has some genuine HOGS in it, and that is one of the very few lakes where I do use a Big O (white), and the strikes will darned near rip the rod out of your hands by times. I may never get there again (darned arthritis), unless I "ride princess" as the third guy in a canoe.................

lapointeric,

In general, naming lakes, rivers, etc that are not common knowledge (i.e. Ottawa, Rideau, Mississippi L, etc) is typically frowned upon due to lurkers, etc. If you're interested in the location, simply send a PM to the author to see if they'll share the name of the body of water with you. :-)

It's a very nice bass for sure and I'm not trying to cast doubt on the guys obvious nice fish but if you calculate with the formula, a 22.5" bass that weighs that much would have to have a girth of 17.75"....

Just an observation!!

Doug
Could have been
little clear
or big clear
or slide lake
or . . .

Regardless, I have not caught a bass in about a year and it makes me want to go after them again.

Alright, I couldn't resist. I don't want to add to the contraversy, but I caught many bass lately and very, very few over 5lbs. And they were HOGS. This one really looks like a good 5.5lbs, but I am sure i'm completely wrong and the scale doesn't lie. I'm just saying, from the pic, it simply looks like a perfect nickel. Anyway, congrats on the awesome fish. Great job!!!!

Well, I figured someone would bring the formula up again:
if you calculate with the formula, a 22.5" bass that weighs that much would have to have a girth of 17.75"
Take out a tape measure, measure out 18 inches, make a circle out of it. That's right, 18 inches of girth ISNT that huge, is it? (6 inches high, 3 inches thick is 18 inches in total girth). To me, this fish could have a 20+ inch girth according to those great pictures.

If he says its 7+, I then I believe him, because time is better spent fishing than challenging fish size, especially if you weren't there to see it caught (which I wasn't).

Fish of a lifetime, enjoy the memory!

Doug,

Frontenac used to be Beeman's playground before he moved out to Sask. His pining to catch bass is due to Sask's lack of bass.

back to Todd B, yes I see that beeman is out west. That's why I told him to get back to Kingston so I could host him.

We did get in to a park lake on Thursday, 5 guys/2 canoes and caught some nice bass and one monster crappie. Youngest son lost a serious largemouth, tail-dancing and spit the hook. :( It would probably have gone five pounds.

But it was NOT as big as the HOG in this thread, and I do apologize for the hi-jack.
