Report a Poacher

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

as far as im concerned in my zone (Ottawa) pike and walleye was open on may 10th witch was the second Saturday of may(trouts open all year).... so using a rapala was perfectly legit if you ask me... second of all, you can only report a poacher if he is walking away with a dead out of season game fish or deliberately targeting en out of season species..... ive used rappalas to fish out perch and catfish for god sakes.... if you would of harassed me like that i wouldn't of been in a good mood either but then again i probably wouldn't of reacted and defended myself when the C.O. got there.....

What the hell did I just spend about 20 minutes reading?

Someone tried to burn an Asian dude fishing out of season by taking a picture?

...ok...

Not to impugn the OP by saying this (Because I think he is well intentioned) ... but threads like this come by once or twice a year and usually have the power to get people arguing one point or another. I have been into them myself from time to time. lol!

When it is all said and done; Just do what you think is right for you and you value system. No one is going to think you are a super hero nor a villain based on any of this. Many will say how they would have done XYZ and in reality they are the ones the peak out their front windows behind the curtains and grumble about the world.

I suppose what can come of this thread is the following:

Post the poaching hotline numbers in this thread for both the ON and QC side.
Post a few rules and regulations links so that we all get it right.
Post a link to a self defense course.

Otherwise, this is just one of those threads where people start getting mad at eachother because they would not do what the other said that they would have done!

I would also love to see the picture(s) of this rod attack!! Just blur the idiot's face out! (Maybe put in Mav's in its place!)

What exactly is it that they are doing that they don't have the time to follow this up ???
They are glued to the Fish-Hawk Forum, waiting for pictures of the rod swinging poacher.
After all, they don't want to be searching for the wrong poacher and the rod can be easily identified. 8)

LOL!

Makes sense to me :geek:

[quote="Streamside88"second of all, you can only report a poacher if he is walking away with a dead out of season game fish or deliberately targeting en out of season species..... [/quote]

Did you miss the part where the supposed "poacher" stated to the OP that he was specifically targeting Walleye?

Does anyone read the regs? Last week i met about a dozen people that were keeping walleye out of the Ottawa (Out of season), on opener i met a few other guys that told me the walleye bite was great a few days prior. When i mentioned it had just opened today (friday before the 3rd saturday of may) everyone thought it opened last week on saturday. I also saw a few guys keeping 16+ inch walleye because they thought the slot limit was 15-19 inches.

Just to let you know, i never called the MNR once and had a friendly conversation with every one of them. None of them stopped fishing after i told them because they must have thought i was wrong, i'm thinking next time i might just give the MNR a call if i don't see a change. I thought seeing a few guys who didn't know the regs wasn't so bad, but after seeing so many i think the MNR needs to step up.

Please remember the Ottawa river is Zone 12, until june 15 you can only keep walleye under 15.7 inches, you can easily find the regs by doing a quick search on google.

Here are the regs for the Ottawa River on the Ontario side.

The Friday before the 3rd Saturday in May, not May 10th, also as stated above nothing over 15.7in.
