OOS bass fishing a joke(now with pic)

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

So whats it going to be , Lurker or Member :?: :?:
This is not about a question about lurker or member this time..... just not comfortable with an FH member asking someone a question about fishing and not getting an honest answer!! or not getting any answer for that matter

I dont know where everyone got the idea that the subject was "All guys in Bass Boats only fish bass" :?: I know a few guys that own bass boats and fish many species.

The observation was "everyone seen poaching on Saturday WAS fishing from a bass boat".

Agreed Relic!!!...this post has now turned into a gong show...it's not goin to resolve anything...if you see a crime in progress, call Ministry of Natural Resources TIPS line at: 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667)

Everyone scoffs at this idea but if you don't try it, then stop complaining...It's up to all of us anglers to report a crime that we think is taking place.....

Here's an interesting read:

I don't think "everyone" has that idea but one of your fellow muskie guys was fairly unequivocal this afternoon.....
I'm sure some do but very few bass guys go out for anything else and the Ottawa certainly isn't the place to go for pike.

Just an FYI to all yall city slickers....

If ya see me fishing the Ottawa from my WarCanoe in the coming years, don't presume I'm gillnetting, spearing or heading to raid the nearest town of it's women, pelts and guns.

Regardless....please lets stay on topic...

Bass boat.....muskie boat....kayak.....canoe......ocean liner... :!: :!:

Who cares....that's not the point...OOS fishing, admitting it and not giving a rats a$# whos witnessing it is the point.

We can quabble over the details or try to correct the issue at hand....

Thanks TMH for putting that link up

I bet if everyone who viewed this thread contacted the OMNR with their experience and stories it would be very tough to ignore.

Heck contact Dalton M. Something has to be initiated somewhere

OOPS sorry MB don't mean to leave anyone out..

Warcanoe...either

I doubt they would do anything in this case (you described)
If they kept any that would be different story.

Folks, I think this is a great discussion and if nothing else does show how passionate people are about our fishing resources. I don't mind letting it go further if people want to talk more about it, however I'll caution on the name calling. If it's a joke between anglers, then just put a smiley face or something on it so it's perceived as a joke.

Let's focus our anger and efforts on trying to see if we can come up with a way to combat this type of behaviour. I think most all of us are in agreement that fishing out of season is against the law. It's a question of what can we do about it, not about bass boats vs. other boat, contributors vs. members, perceived bad opinions vs. perceived good opinions, or anything like that. It's about what WE, as just common anglers, can do when we see other anglers who are potentially breaking the laws of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. Reporting it to the TIPS hotline is a good first step, but is there anything else we can do without putting ourselves in harms way to help the MNR track down such people?

I think that's a better discussion, don't you?

Hey GetTheNet....do you think you could stir up someone in the MNR to get us some advice on this topic? I think a lot of people would benefit from some good sound advice on what we can do to help the MNR. I'm sure help in some regard would be a welcomed thing, would it not? If so, shoot me an e-mail and let me know what you think.

cheers,
Rob Atkinson

I think out of all the posts Ive read which have been them all Ben Leger is the most I agree with, besides the originator of this post of course. Because its exactly whats needed to reduce occurrences such as these.

I own a bass boat and have the exact same problem as Ben. In fact When they approach me I say hey man thanks for caring about bass but Im not the one your looking for. Ill then state its good to see anglers who care about rules and regulations. Then I always ask them so what are you catching your fish on. Some dont reply, Most do and Ill say so far this year 2out of 3 have mentioned BigO's.. and the funny thing about that is I think I caught my biggest bass ever when I was a kid on a bigo... Ironic.... Point is I go out of my way to make sure people follow rules and regs.. If it means saying something or mentioning something.. But I find alot of the time the angler isnt even aware of the regs... So to me we need awareness. and this post is exactly that..

Ive been accused 3 times this year of fishing bass in 5-12ft of water fishing shore with grubs & hair jigs.. 2 out of the 3 times they were like "you know bass season isnt open yet right"..??!! Well if bass are gold and have big teeth and have a white spot on their tail im guilty. Then I preceded to take out a keeper eye and show t too him.. 1 guy started fishing ,, the other guy said "oh I didnt know Pickeral were this shallow..

So to me its the guys who say these things sometimes the ones who dont always know what they are talking about... But you got to respect them for enforcing or atleast trying. Because many of you or people in general wouldnt even say a word!!! And those people at then end of the day can be just as guilty in some circumstances...

One last thing that needs a comment was Jamsers mentioned something about you dont see Muskie guys throwing Believers, Jakes, Burts, Ernies, Joe Buchers, Grandma's and Bucktails.. No man they throw spinnerbaits.... Ive seen many guys target muskie out of season in Princecrafts, and a Lund if im not mistaken... Or was it a Crestliner?!? I cant remember that was years ago.. But they were throwing spiinerbaits.. Me and my buddy knew it was blatant obvious they were throwing for muskie.... With the aggressive fast retrieve and mutiple casts they were throwing into Muskie roaming waters... Its done for every species... No matter what boat or what time of year... It just so happens that when bass are out of season the first boat you look at when it goes by is a bass boat!?! They are suspected everytime I know from experience and like in my first paragraph I say thanks for caring.... But it snot me you need to tell.!!

What about the 12ft aluminum with the cooler full of smallies heading for the dock ......????

Tight lines & goodluck

Agree - call MNR.
Virtually all the CO activities are complaint driven. We are their eyes and ears, with the limited budgets they have, they simply can't be everywhere.

I've seen OOS bass fishing, but haven't been accused of it - personally I only troll for pike and eyes until bass opens. But mostly stick to trout before July.

Going for smallies on Saturday - can't wait for the aerial displays...

This thread will be over on Saturday - one more reason to look forward to June 28th!!

Spence,

I fish muskie primarily. I was giving an example.
Yes some guys may do throw spinners. It is unfortunate they fish OOS.

I can guarantee though they are not part of the muskie die-hard community. Nobody in their right mind with any moral fiber would ever fish them OOS.

But sadly you see goofs and poachers all the time. When you do you should say something.
