I caught a fish tonight...........

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I caught a fish tonight...........

Post by slop »

and have no idea what it was :? The fish was bright, bright orange almost to the point of dark red along it's top. All fins on this fish were red also. The overall profile of the fish resembled that of a smallmouth bass. This fish had red eyes too, similar to a rockbass. The scales became progessively larger toward the small head and mouth. I did'nt notice any barbels around the mouth which was'nt positioned downward and was void of any teeth. The mouth was actually quite small, sorta like a bluegill or pumpkinseed. The fish was solid as a rock and weighed approx 1kg (2lb) I was fishing an inlet near Prescott close to the Larry.

Any idea as to what i caught :?:

Sounds like a koi. But they don't have red eyes I don't think. Did you keep it?

Goldfishes are sometimes released in rivers and lakes by ignorant people... but I think they loose their color with time...

:) Slop, I'm not an expert but I believe that fish is called a Rudd, related to the Roach family which I believe is European.

Apparently this species is another unwanted introduction into Canadian waters courtesy of ocean-going vessels.

I used to catch them in Britain as a young lad... A 2 lber would have been a lot of fun!

The way things are going, this world is going to become one great big melting pot.
