I haven't had a feed of these babies in years,Not since living in Sturgeon Falls (lake Nippissing).
Are any of these to be had?The St. Larry?
I have never gone out for them and would not have a clue as to how to fish them.

I know guys that are getting them on the north shore of weastern Lake Erie....around Erieau. The grand up to Dunville was choked with them all winter. I'm not sure if they've moved out of there or not. And the Niagara River is full of them right now too.

They are a poor subsitute for the runs we'd get from the salt water in NS. :?

We used to go smelting all the time when I was young just outside of Owen Sound at Leath where the river dumps into the bay.

We would stand in the river with the net between our legs while someone went up river and splashed around, you could see the river turn black, then hold onto your net lfor dear life.

AHHHHH those were the days :D

If you feel like driving 600 clicks, you can get them in Round Lake,in Timiskaming. Also, when they run, a great time to catch huge ling at night. We used to be able to fill the boat with 10-20 pounders. Even pretty good eating in ice water.
