I've used nylon every year until last year when I got a rubber net.

Man do I ever like the rubber better...no hook ups!

Mind you I don't know how well they would handle a large fish as they have a tendency not to frequent my boat too often

Any experience with the big ones and how they work????

I like the rubber net better due to less damage to the fish as well as no more snags with your trebles while the fish is still hooked -- PAIN!

But I don't like the shape of my rubber net too much. It's very shallow and has a long & heavy handle. I have a difficult time trying to net a fish when I'm alone in the boat; it's really cumbersome.

So I guess I would stick with rubber nets, but need to find one that works better for me.

My experience trying to land a +40 musky with a rubber net was pretty hair-raising, but that's just cuz my net was too small...size was the issue not the material.

I have a "walleye-sized" rubber net and I'll never go back to nylon. Easier on the fish, no more hooks snagged in the mesh, doesn't stink...just need a bigger one if I'm going to play with the big boys

You can get large "rubberized" nets to handle bigger fish. Most ow the "rubber" nets I have seen are only big enough to handle walleyes or bass.

Rubber nets are great for the fish, but as a tournament angler, there is a lot of drag when pulling the net through the water and thus you could possibly miss the fish.
Tangle free nets are much easier to use if you are fishing by yourself and they have improved alot in recent years compared to the old cotton or nylon nets.
As for landing a muskie in a rubber net. Always try to match your equipment for the species you are after to make it easier on the fish and you.

I have a rubber net and I love it!

I like it because it never tangles and it's easy to clean! I hated using my nylon net and having old pike slim and seaweed all stuck in it.

I like rubber nets, the fish do not ge tangled in it and its easier to get the fish back in the water faster

Tangle free nylon nets are the way to go. Rubber nets are heavy and poor for large fish. Tangle free or "dipped nylon" will eventually make the rubber nets extinct.

I carry 3 nets at all times in my boat.......one rubber for bass and walleyes...I carry a cradle for midsized fish.....and gar.....they go right thru my big nets holes...

For muskies I use a Frabill Large Hoop Net.....the fish only leave the water for that quick pic for posterity...

I'll show ya at Westmeath Mr.J.....easier in person...to see how the big net works....

for me i used 3 net to,,,,,,,,

i have my small net attatche to my back when i go flyfishing,,,,,,,

and i have a good quality net for walley,,,,,,,,good quality is the way to go if dont whant to loss time fishing ,,,,,,,

and my BIG beckman for musky,,,,,,,,,,,,,can put the musky in and he can swim in it in the water,,,,,,dont have to bring him out off water to get the hook out,,,,,,,

mabe i will get a ruber one for bass,,,seems to be great for that purpuse,,,
