Hey everyone,
I am in a bind here. I need an aluminum welder in the kingston area. I have a small slit in the bottom of my boat and am having a hard time finding someone to fix it. I have tried patching etc. and nothing will work. I would do it myself, but I have never done it before and am affraid of making it worse. If anyone knows of anyone in my area who does aluminum welding please let me know ASAP. Thanks in advance!

Hey Blake, may sound obvious but, have you tried contacting local welding shops

Usually they can put you onto someone who specializes in that type of welding

I had a tough go in Ottawa here about 15 years ago looking for someone...goodluck

I know of somebody in ottawa actually he is from Aylmer and he has a truck to do welding on the road might not be cheap though because it is specialty welding.

I have contacted some but they arent really interested in doing something so small. Thats my problem , finding someone who will do really small jobs

hi orrsey,have you tried the welding rods that you can use with a propane torch i think ct stocks them or contact a welding supply shop the gas suppliers would also carry this stuff if you still can't find any i have some allan.c

I have tried JB weld and the water still seems to make its way through. As for the welding rods I dont trust myself. I have never welded before and with my luck I would end up with a hole I could fish through in the bottom. CCB, I have not herd of that guy before I will look into that thanks.

Unfortunately, if you have a split or crack they normally occur where there is stress on the hull and the "quick fixes" usually don't last.

I do some welding and work with guys who have welded for years, but they won't touch aluminum. It takes a specialist to do it right.

The best aluminum welder in the region (and a friend of mine) died two weks ago today as a result of a boat collision on the river.

He could have fixed you up in no time...

I did mine with my 120V small MIG welder. About 10" gash in the front, hasn't leaked since. Was a little hard getting it to start but i can drive it in a brick wall and the wall will crack, must have about 2lbs of aluminum in it.

Good luck with that problem, Orrsey. I hope you can get it repaired properly this time.
