Well, I did my first Tournament yesterday up at Couchiching. I was very surprised at how clear and shallow the water was. We were seeing Pike swimming right by the boat in 3-4 ft of water but they would not hit anything. I had a 45" at least follow my HJ Firetiger but then right near the boat, he just kept on swimming away. My partner threw everything he had at it and no go! At around 12:30 we started to get worried, no fish in the boat. We went into the public dock area at the south west end of the lake and at around 1:00 pm the Pike started to hit, I lost a nice one that was on for about 20 seconds and he spit the hook.
We ended up catching about 14 fish, mostly little hammerhandles. All in all our total weight for 3 fish was just under 10 lbs.
The First and Second place winners had 32 lbs 2 ozs and 32 lbs 4 ozs respectively, imagine losing by such a small margin. First place was $1200.00 & Second was $900.00. The largest prize fish was 15.46 lbs.
After it was over I was talking to the winning team who told me that they got them in Simcoe, just through the Atherly narrows.
I guess we should have read the rules, because we thought it was Couchinching only, and we probably would have done much better in Simcoe.
Out of 25 Boats, we came in 10th. Half of the boats did not even boat a fish.
Sorry about the no pics, was too worried about getting something worth weighing in. LOL
